Meldreth Primary School

Summer officially announced itself at Meldreth Primary School and with that came a flurry of outdoor activities, events and educational visits! Our younger students enjoyed the reopening of our newly refurbished school swimming pool and our Year 5 and 6 classes looked forward to their weekly jaunt across the tracks to Melbourn Village College for their swimming lessons.

Indeed, the walk was more entertaining than ever as our route took us through the newly christened ‘Wonderpass’, which is an absolute feast for the eyes and a brilliant showcase of our local, inter-generational talent. A selection of our students’ brilliant artwork is proudly on display: Ronnie in Year 3 designed the Melbourn Dynamos emblem and Verity in Year 1 created our school’s contribution.

Our children enjoyed the recent Church Summer Fete, a whole community event that some were involved in. Under the baking hot sun, Isla and Emily in Year 5 opened the proceedings by performing a stunning dance routine in front of a packed crowd and our school choir raised the roof with their rendition of a number of popular classics. I am proud to say that our children’s contributions weren’t restricted to performances either, with a number of them turning up early to volunteer their time and help set up stalls and activities.

As their primary school years came to an end, our Year 6 pupils were also extremely busy. Their Enterprise Project achieved a positive result from the £5 loan from our PTA and was thoroughly enjoyed by the rest of the children and their families. In June the children enjoyed a fantastic residential week on the Isle of Wight; body-boarding and kayaking around the coast and climbing the infamous ‘Leap of Faith’ in preparation for their next leap to secondary school.
