WORLD BOOK DAY 2023
Thursday 2 March will see classrooms around the UK celebrate World Book Day. Continuing to grow in popularity, the annual event sees children and teachers dressing up as their favourite literary characters, providing a key date for costume suppliers’ calendars. Progressive Party found out what their plans are for the 2023 event.

n 2022, World Book Day distributed 50 million of its £1/€1.50 tokens through schools, magazines and partnerships. In total, two million £1 books were gifted by booksellers and publishers to children around the UK, demonstrating how many children were reached by the event.

World Book Day’s mission is to see more children with a lifelong habit of reading for pleasure, and the improved life chances this will bring them. Again in 2023, every child will receive a voucher, entitling them to choose from a carefully curated selection of 12 titles for all abilities. Part of encouraging a love of reading, World Book Day says, is making it fun. And that’s where dressing up comes in. Rubies is an avid supporter of the event and this year joins as a corporate partner. Mike O’Connell, managing director of Rubies, tells us: “With World Book Day right around
