A “Nuvo”day By Joe Santos, Jr. On a sunny day in West Hollywood I sat down with Karina Nuvo, a dear friend and spiritually enlightened Mother, Singer, Grammy Nominee, Vocal Teacher, Humanitarian, and Survivor. Her story of survival and of the many bumps in the road she has had to endure have not deterred her from her focus of being a great mom, giving back to others, and coming back even better and stronger, to do what she was born to do, sing! ! JS: Welcome home from your European trip. I heard that on your way back you stayed additional weeks in Miami for some sort of surgery. Is that correct? KN: Yes. I had to have a small surgery for TMJ. It’s a result of chronic stress on the Temporomandibular Joint (jaw). A condition caused by many other medical issues. In my case, it stemmed from something called an Acoustic Neuroma. JS: A brain tumor? KN: Yes. But it’s a benign tumor. Non-cancerous. They grow on the nerve. It can cause hearing loss, unsteadiness. But it can be treated with surgery and radiation. JS: Are you ok? I mean you look amazing. Your energy is crystal clear, bright and warm. KN: I come from a place of light. I don’t know any other way to move forward.
