A Modern European Capital Lisbon is one of the most exhilarating cities to be in right now. Its climate, culture and people have extended a warm welcome to visitors for years. Today, the historic city is humming with international and modern influences that together, with an attractive expat tax regime and low cost of living, make it an irresistible destination for expatriate residents. Lisbon is also fast becoming a destination for relocation of many international businesses and start-ups within the EU. There is a strong focus on technology and creativity thanks to the available, highly-skilled, multi-lingual local talent.

The city is home to restaurants with young and innovative chefs, a multicultural music scene and a wide range of attractions that the whole family can enjoy. Besides the urban highlights, Greater Lisbon is also the location for some of Portugal’s most beautiful natural landscapes in Sintra and the Atlantic Coast. 1

LISBON VOTED No.1 In 2019, PwC voted Lisbon as the number one city for real-estate investment, stating “Lisbon is this year’s choice, rising 10 places to Number 1.” They cite the city’s quality of life and positive leadership as two of the relevant factors. Portugal’s economy is growing at a healthy rate, and its capital is now an international destination for companies, investors and tourists.

The global citizen in Lisbon Greater Lisbon combines great year-round weather (experiencing around 250 days of sunny weather) with superb connectivity not just within Europe but also to the Americas, Africa, China and the Middle East. There are a number of highly-rated international schools in the capital catering for expatriates and foreign residents from Europe and the rest of the world. Another international school is due to open at Park of Nations in 2020. Travelling between your workplace and a comfortable home in Lisbon has never been easier. Indeed it has become a uniquely attractive base for the global citizen. Lisbon’s Park of Nations – ‘Parque das Nações’ – was planned with the latest urban planning ideals in mind; underground, bus, rail and road networks connect residents easily to the wider world. Besides being just a few minutes from the international airport and Central Lisbon, the district is home to Lisbon’s most modern bus and train terminal, the Gare do Oriente. It also sees the start of the arterial north-south highway across the picturesque Vasco da Gama bridge to the Algarve and the rest of Europe via Spain.

Park of Nations – a place where kids can roam free – was established as a residential and commercial destination during the World Expo in 1998. Thoughtful urban planning gave rise to generous public spaces, wide pedestrian pathways, various parks, a marina, casino, museums, concert halls, hospitals, schools, sports facilities, modern shopping centres and so much more. Since then, other amenities and attractions have taken root, making it a truly vibrant place to live and work.

The resort development in Martinhal Sagres established the group’s reputation as a leading developer in Portugal. The 5-star resort on a 415.000 sq m plot at the corner of the Algarve’s stunning coast includes 37 hotel rooms, 132 village houses, 50 townhouses and villas with unique designs and a range of high quality leisure, sports and food and beverage facilities. Between 2015 and 2016, they opened 3 other Martinhal hotels and resorts in the Algarve and greater Lisbon. Their latest opening of the world’s first city-centre luxury family hotel in Lisbon’s cultural quarter, Chiado is especially interesting as it is a truly unique property in the middle of Lisbon’s old town. All four Martinhal hotels & resorts are based on private investors acquiring villas and apartments with the option to enter their property into the letting pool of the operator. Since its inception in 2010, Martinhal has had an excellent reputation with owners. The couple has become known for creating destinations that have global appeal. To date, they have sold over 300 Martinhal branded apartments and houses to individual expatriate buyers alone. Savills has recently picked Martinhal as one of the top 3 branded residences brands in Europe. They have also invested and delivered in other real-estate classes in the Lisbon area such as the neighbouring Ageas headquarters to Martinhal Residences (completed in December 2021) and the United Lisbon International School, which opened in September 2020 and already has more than 310 students and still growing.
