Afloat repairs

ROG Ship Repair facilities in Rotterdam are suited to cater to every need. With open sea access, the yard is easily reachable for any size of ship: whether it is a seagoing or o shore vessel, including jack-up vessels. Let’s take a look at one of the recent projects completed by the ROG team.

ROG Ship Repair has been able to complete many great projects in the past year.

One of these projects was a bulbous bow repair on buoys.

At the end of November 2022, a vessel belonging to of one of ROG’s customers left the harbour after a maintenance job to await its next voyage at the anchorage. While at anchorage, another ship was drifting, which made a collision inevitable.

Challenge accepted!

With great force, the ship was hit on the bulbous bow and at the side, which resulted in a considerable damage. The ship owner immediately called ROG Ship Repair to make preparations to repair the damage. The challenge with this repair was that the ship had to be repaired on buoys, because a repair quay was not available at the time. With the help of the drawings, the company was able to prefabricate the plates for the bulbous bow and the hull damage. Pontoons with sca olding on them were moored around the damage and the ROG team started to cut out the damaged areas and apply the new steel. All this was made possible without having to go into drydock.

As ROG specialises in afloat repairs, the ship was back in service in no time. The work was delivered on schedule to the satisfaction of the client.

With the right equipment for each job, scheduled and unscheduled ship repair and maintenance are critical elements within the ROG business process.

“Other solutions and concepts have been studied, but most result in larger vessel dimensions and more complex handling operations when the vessel is o shore. The VERticale setup results in a balanced solution for installing future wind farms”.
