BEHIND THE SCENES
one mann’s opinion Welcome to our February issue of Mann About Town. While January has been quiet, many have been spending some time in Palm Beach, my wife Annie and I included. As we pick up the pace here in New York City, I continue to be active while also being a “snowbird.” Annie and I enjoyed our time with so many friends as I enjoyed some rounds of golf as well. There is a diverse crowd of people all over and with an active social life there, we are filled with warmth. While Florida is a great place to meet new people, reflect and catch up with old friends, I constantly come back with topics to discuss with my team in the office. Our January issue received great feedback and our social media is rising in leaps and bounds. We are also focusing on growing our weekly newsletters between all three Mann Publications magazines and are constantly thinking of new ways to promote our ever-growing platforms. I personally have learned a lot about Instagram, and I can’t tell you how much fun we’ve been having in the office creating and interacting with others. We have held more and more events tied into our covers with each being more successful with a selective crowd full of warmth and elegance. I think everyone will find this cover for Black History Month to be very interesting. We chose an individual who puts herself into her art and it’s an exciting story to read. As Alex and I research, we find unique and successful people in their respective careers. We work hard for each cover, the content we find and our print and social media platforms. As always, we look for photo events to share with our readers. As it is hard to narrow down, we do our best to keep everyone in the loop with the best things that are happening. I hope you enjoy reading this issue as much as I did, and I will report back in March for Women’s Month. We have exciting projects coming up and I thank everyone for the constant support. As always, feel free to call with ideas! We are always open to new collaborations and relationships.

avid Z. Chesnoff, Las Vegas philanthropist and nationally renowned attorney, was honored with the Las Vegas Scopus Award, presented by American Friends of the Hebrew University (AFHU). The event was held at the Encore at Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas. The AFHU Scopus Award event raised more than $1 million to support student scholarships and the Clinical Legal Education Center at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel’s premier research and higher learning institution. Named for Mount Scopus in Jerusalem, the AFHU Scopus Award reflects the University’s highest ideals of achievement, leadership and philanthropic engagement. The Scopus Award is given to individuals with a legacy dedicated to humanitarian concerns. At the event, AFHU Western Region Board Vice Chair, Patricia Glaser said, “David has strengthened the connection between Las Vegas and the Hebrew University. He is deserving of this award for his dedication to Israel, his service to the community and his support of University initiatives.” Hebrew University President Prof. Asher Cohen and Prof. Tomer Broude, Dean of the Faculty of Law, paid tribute to Chesnoff at an exclusive event meet and greet for VIP guests. Alex Yemenidjian, Chairman of Armenco Capital, LLC presented the Scopus Award to Chesnoff. Among the local government dignitaries were Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo, and Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson.

Your service to the Las Vegas community, support of Jewish philanthropy in Nevada and around the country as well as your commitment to Israel have made meaningful contributions to the lives of so many.” “David deserves the Scopus Award because he exemplifies everything the award represents,” said Governor Lombardo. “David brings our community together through his volunteerism, benevolence and leadership – there is no one more deserving of this Award.” “During these dark and challenging times for Israel, American Friends of the Hebrew University is pleased to pay tribute to David,” said AFHU Chief Executive Officer Joshua Rednik. “He has given so much to Israel and has been a leader in the Nevada Jewish Community. His recent visit to Israel to serve as a hospital volunteer is just one example of his commitment and of why he is so deserving of this accolade.” A leading criminal defense attorney and a partner at Chesnoff & Schonfeld, a top law fi rm in the United States, Chesnoff counts Hollywood celebrities and well-known public figures among his clients. However, he is deeply committed to helping the underdog prevail against a more powerful entity. “My role is to see that the Constitution is followed and that every one of my defendants receives the best defense available,” Chesnoff said. “I am humbled to receive this award and that I am being recognized for having tried to be a good person.”
“I think David deserves this award for the many, many ways he contributes,” Wolfson said in a tribute video. “A lot of people talk the talk, but David walks the walk. He’s a great humanitarian, and his contributions have really made a difference.”
“I feel honored to be named the 2024 recipient of the AFHU Scopus Award,” Chesnoff continued. “Israel needs us now more than ever and amidst these turbulent times, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem stands as a beacon of hope, offering students a world-class education and enabling economic and social mobility for young people from all walks of life.”
Nevada Senator Jacky Rosen also sent a video greeting, stating, “We’re here tonight to recognize the work and dedication of my friend, Scopus Award recipient David Chesnoff. Mazel Tov and congratulations, David.
Previous Scopus Award recipients include Barbra Streisand, Leonard Bernstein, Bob Hope, Frank Sinatra, Elizabeth Taylor and Elie Wiesel, among others.

“Growing up the Bebe brand was iconic! My vision as creative director is to mix my own personal style elements of girl-next-door with tomboy, glam and edge with a nod to the 90s. I want this collection to allow women to style it their way and feel confident on their terms,” said Ciara. Bebe is a brand that has always celebrated bold, sophisticated elegance and is designed for the woman who wants to make a statement. The Bebe customer knows what she likes and seeks that pop of edge and glamor in her wardrobe. Partnering with style icon Ciara, is a natural evolution for Bebe, as she is widely recognized for her distinctive sense of style with just the right amount of eye-catching drama, while out and about or on the stage. “We are thrilled to welcome Ciara to the Bebe family. Her unique and bold fashion sense makes her a perfect partner for the Bebe brand, and we look forward to bringing her creative vision to life for our diverse, global audience,” said Joseph Gabbay, CEO of Bluestar Alliance. Review of
“The Night of the Iguana” By Robert Massimi
Le Femme Theatre’s production of “ The Night of the Iguana” is the best rendition of this play that I have seen. Tennessee Williams’s masterpiece, if done poorly can be a long, drawn-out evening at the theater. There are several reasons why this “Iguana” is good, such as the exquisite sound by Darron L. West, the incredible lighting by Jeff Croiter, the deft costumes by Jennifer Von Mayrhauser and the direction by Emily Mann. Williams, if not the best American playwright, is right up there with the Hemingways of the American literary world. He often brings out the utter desperation in his characters. In this play we have Lawrence Shannon (Tim Daly), a drunk who has been defrocked by his church, Maxine Faulk (Daphne Rubin-Vega), who has recently become a widow and Hannah Jelkes ( Jean Lichty), a wanderer who knows and accepts her downtrodden lifestyle. What makes Williams so effective as a writer like in many of his plays, he brings the characters to low depths as human beings, and often these people are mentally deranged. Then, he takes them to even lower depths to the point where the audience is shocked by the squealer, which is the life and the world that they live in.
there were only two lulls in the show. For a short period in the fi rst act we had too much dialogue that went in circles between Daly and Vega; the same can be said for the second act between Daly and Lichty. Even with a bland scenic design (Beowulf Boritt), Mann kept us in this complex piece like a master. As much as the cast is wonderful, it is Tim Daly as the reverend who wants to do good as he desperately fights off his inner demons (“the spook” as he calls it). He has a penchant for young girls and liquor, and both have gotten him in trouble time and time again. Daphne Rubin-Vega (Rent) yearns for the reverend and Lea Delaria, a Texas woman and leader for a vacationing Baptist Church tortures the already mentally weak Lawrence Shannon into continuing his tour guide which has gone array. The great Austin Pendleton plays Nonno, the oldest poet in America at 97 years old and Jean Lichty plays his granddaughter, who looks after him as they go country to country hustling her paintings and his poetry. I saw Lichty a few years back in another Williams play, “A Lovely Sunday for Creve Coeur,” at the Church at St. Clements in which she was also excellent. It is these five core actors that along with Mann make this a worthwhile show to see!
Mann for the most part makes sure characters are interesting to the audience. “The Night of the Iguana” is three hours long and in this performance,

BEAUTY AND SKINCARE
The Gold Standard in Skin Care All that glitters might truly be gold. Turns out, the latest luxury skin care products building buzz in beauty circles are worth their weight in gold—24K gold to be precise. Offering more than just an opulent glow, 24K gold–infused products serve up the perfect cocktail of cutting-edge, high-performing results and a luxurious skin care experience. The gilded ingredient has even been spotted in the trendiest of skin care treatments—eye patches! To talk about the skin care perks of this precious metal, we turned to skin care guru Peter Thomas Roth, an influential segment leader in the beauty industry. Known for creating breakthrough formulas that deliver astonishing results, Roth leads all research and development efforts at his state-of-the-art lab and manufacturing facility. One innovation from Roth’s lab that has, quite literally, struck gold is his 24K Gold Pure Luxury Lift & Firm Hydra-Gel Eye Patches. Here, Roth talks about the skin benefits of 24K gold, what’s behind the recent skin care gold rush and why his 24K Gold Hydra-Gel Eye Patches are a cult favorite among his customers and celebrities alike. What are the skin benefits of 24K gold? There’s a reason 24K gold is a precious metal. Not only is it a natural antioxidant and anti-inflammatory, but 24K gold has been known from the time of Cleopatra to have powerful anti-aging benefits, too. The famous Egyptian queen with her goddess-like beauty is rumored to have used gold face masks to help preserve her youthful-looking complexion. 24K gold helps fi rm, lift, brighten and calm the appearance of skin while providing an opulent glow. What’s behind the centuries-later comeback of 24K gold? The recent trend toward quiet luxury that has been sweeping the beauty world, and most famously on TikTok, has certainly contributed to the renewed excitement about 24K gold-infused skin care. These indulgent products embody accessible skin care that’s both powerfully effective and effortlessly luxurious. Why are your 24K Gold Pure Luxury Lift & Firm Hydra-Gel Eye Patches so unique? I infused my anti-aging eye patches with pure 24K gold to help lift, fi rm, brighten and calm the appearance of the delicate eye area in just 10 minutes, while also offering long-term results. They’re saturated with Hyaluronic Acid and Hydrolyzed Collagen to deliver intensive hydration and to help diminish the appearance of fi ne lines, wrinkles and crow’s feet, giving the under-eye area a look of improved fi rmness. I also added caffeine to help reduce the look of puffi ness. They provide an instant cooling effect, and the light, calming lavender scent is pure heaven! Why do your 24K Gold Pure Luxury Lift & Firm Hydra-Gel Eye Patches have such a cult following? My customers love my 24K Gold Hydra-Gel Eye Patches because they’re the ultimate in luxury. They elevate your skin care routine and complement any daily eye serums and creams you already use. They make your eyes look gorgeous, and they look gorgeous, too!

When should someone use your 24K Gold Hydra-Gel Eye Patches? You can wear these eye patches whenever you want to see lifting, fi rming, de-puffi ng and hydrating results fast! They’re fabulous fi rst thing in the morning to help tired, swollen eyes appear instantly rested, de-puffed and refreshed or as a pampering midday pick-me-up. They’re also great on the go! Beauty editors have told me they swear by my 24K gold eye patches as their must-have travel eye treatment for soothing and hydrating under-eyes during long fl ights. And cool tip – keeping them in the fridge between uses makes for an even more refreshing and cooling treatment. Any time is the perfect time to treat your eyes to my eye patches—they’re brilliant! ucked away on the fringes of SoHo, Tribeca and Hudson Square is Kintsugi Omakase, an understated, fashionable sushi atelier from New York-based creative partners Ashe Yeung, a designer, and Tim Madrid, an art director. They, along with Executive Chef Victor Chen (formerly of New York Sushi Ko), and General Manager JC Myska have brought the name “kintsugi”—the Japanese art of putting broken pottery pieces back together with gold to embrace imperfections—full circle. The team has removed much of the rigidity found in many omakase sushi services around the city in favor of a more relaxed experience focusing on care and passion. The small jewel box sushi counter seats 10 and serves three tiers of premium omakase which include seasonal appetizers and sushi: The Kintsugi Omakase, a 16-course service for $195; The Soho Experience, a 13-course experience for $155; and The Grand Street Classic, a 10-course meal for $95. All tastings also include a sushi chef’s choice of handroll, gourmet miso soup, tamago and seasonal dessert. Chef Victor prepares his sushi in the traditional edomae style, but unlike many other sushi chefs, he does not solely use Japanese ingredients. A long-standing relationship with fishmongers allows Kintsugi Omakase to offer locally sourced fish, enabling a broader selection. Regardless of which experience is chosen, Chef Victor’s service always includes some of his imaginative starters with exciting flavor combinations: Spanish Mackeral lightly smoked and served with grated green apple, representing “the Big Apple”; Ankimo, monkfish liver topped with a piece of Narazuke (melon pickled in sake lees); and his signature Amadai, tilefish with crispy scales and accompanied by baby corn and shishito pepper, which remains constant. The nigiri progression may feature selections such as Seabream sourced from Greece; Toro Sarawa, the winter season Spanish Mackerel, that fishermen branded “Toro” to emphasize the extreme fat content; Akami-zuke, lean bluefin tuna marinated in soy sauce; Otoro, tuna sourced from Boston, which is currently in season; Keiji baby Salmon; and Nodoguro, black throat seaperch that is often referred to as the “Wagyu of the sea.”
Chef Victor’s signature Smoked Uni Nigiri, a blend of four uni varieties lightly smoked and served draped over rice wrapped in nori, is served nightly in each omakase tier. The nigiri portion of the meal is followed by Chef Victor’s signature Grilled Black Cod with soy-cured egg yolk rice donburi; a handroll, made with tuna tartare with minced tuna and scallop; and Unagi, freshwater eel that is sourced from Maine, delivered live to the restaurant and fileted in-house. Seasonal desserts rotate, with an emphasis on Tamago, which is lightly sugared and torched for guests to enjoy warm. Also offered is a broad selection of ice cream imported from Japan such as traditional Japanese flavors of Hojicha and Black Sesame ice cream. The Kintsugi Uni Tasting is the perfect addition to any of the three premium experiences utilizing different types of sea urchin sourced from around the world based on seasonality and market availability. Partner Ashe Yeung developed the beverage program. Its sake program highlights rotating seasonal selections—now serving fall/winter, and sake pairings for each omakase experience. Featured Japanese Spirits, headlined by a selection of rare Japanese whisky, gin and Japanese beer and wine. The dining room is centered around the natural wood 10-seat sushi counter, which is framed by dark charcoal walls. Soothing light is filtered through Japanese wooden slats creating a relaxing mood. Each course is presented on dinnerware in collaboration with EM Ceramics and Spark Bird Studio who created an exclusive line of handcrafted, gold-fused dinnerware for Kintsugi. hef George Pagonis and brother/co-owner Nicholas went to the Greek island, Paros, every summer as children, hence their restaurant’s name. Serving authentic Greek cuisine, Paros takes influence from the Aegean Sea. The food resembles what the brothers ate growing up in Greece, giving the Paros menu a personal touch. Paros sources most of its seafood from Greece, and creates standout dishes such as Fagri, pink snapper from the Aegean with full flavor and firm texture. Other notable dishes are their Lobster Pasta, whole Maine lobster, tomato, basil mizithra and chitarra pasta, and Lamb Shank Youvetsi, slowly braised lamb shank in tomato sauce, orzo and mizithra. To pair with their dishes, Paros offers handcrafted cocktails. Some drinks include the Grecian-Tini, Grey Goose vodka, Skinos Masticha, mint and fresh cranberry juice and the Santa Maria, Herradura Ultra Tequila Anejo, fresh cucumber juice, jalapeño agave and a tajin rim. To honor their father, they have “The Mr. Tony,” made with Old Forester Bourbon, homemade fig syrup and black walnut bitters.
Paros sources most of its seafood from Greece, and creates standout dishes such as Fagri, pink snapper from the Aegean with full flavor and firm texture.
Chef George and Nicholas gained their restaurant experience through working in their family’s diner. They were able to gain a strong foundation in both culinary and hospitality. Before Paros, Chef George was the culinary director of Kyma Hudson Yards and Kyma Flatiron in New York City. George helped put mainland Greek cuisine, including daily whole animal roasting, on the map in the nation’s capital when he opened his own restaurant Kapnos in 2013. He then appeared on Bravo TV’s “Top Chef” in 2014 and placed fifth. Nicholas also has a history of managing restaurants across the country, including being the general manager of Kyma Hudson Yards. As a new restaurant, Paros plans to establish itself as a nice and approachable neighborhood restaurant. They want to stay authentic and continue to use fresh Greek food with traditional flavors. With multiple Greek restaurants across the city, Chef George differs from others by being both executive chef and owner. Chef George is always around and cooks everything every day. Paros offers dishes other Greek restaurants may not and Chef George holds each dish to a very high standard. In the upcoming years, Paros hopes to become an established Tribeca neighborhood restaurant as they look to become the “go-to” spot with hopes to open a second location.

orn and raised in Miami to a Cuban father and a Bahamian mother, Latina Artist Reyna Noriega grew up in a city surrounded by a heavy art influence. As a young adult, Noriega has seen her own art exhibitions, designs on buildings, large corporation collaborations and so much more. Her influences allowed her to accomplish what other artists dream of. Noriega’s work centers around her experiences as an Afro-Caribbean artist as well as that of other people’s journeys, specifically women of color. Living in Miami, art is on every corner; culture is embedded in the street art on buildings and sidewalk sculptures, architecture, museums and galleries. Noriega’s father was a full-time baseball player, but art was his first love. Retiring when she was born, her father fell back into his creative side. During her childhood, Noriega watched her father’s art come to life, from his sketchbook to logos, signs and t-shirts for sports. Although he retired professionally, his own art career had just begun. “Looking back at it now, I feel that’s where I found out that my art can center the things, people and places I love,” Noriega said. While her passion for art was mostly forgotten throughout elementary and middle school, high school was when she returned to the craft and saw it blossom. At the International Baccalaureate Program, Noriega’s student life turned more and more to art, as it proved to be a release from her rigorous academic program. Although her father was her true inspiration for art, Noriega also credits other artists that permitted her to find her style. Patrick Nagel, Henri Rousseau, Roy Lichtenstein, Claude Monet and other artists were doing things outside the norm that gave art permission to expand beyond what people already knew. Each artist plays with muted tones with added pops of color throughout each painting. Because of this, each artist, including Noriega, can draw the viewer in.
“It’s [art] finally getting the credit it deserves in defining culture, defining historical moments and communicating things,” Noriega said. “Every aspect of our lives, art touches. It drives everything.” Noriega spent a period of her life shifting, focusing on herself inwards and who she was. A big switch for her was through her fashion style. Playing it safe with neutral tones to not stand out became wearing colors and wanting to be bold. Wearing new patterns and bright colors fed her creativity, which manifested in her art alongside elements that play homage to women of color with pieces that include spotlights on her hair and other bold styles. “Once I put my fashion style into my artwork, it made me feel more seen,” Noriega said. The colorful tones with pops of neon and patterns in her clothing seamlessly transfer to each canvas. Before this, Noriega always felt as though something was missing. Some of Noriega’s pieces that express her fashion inspiration are “Our Garden,” “Head Held High,” “Girls Day Out,” “Genesis” and “Girls Trip.” A common theme links each piece: the power, individuality and womanhood of a woman of color’s identity. “Everything I make has the common goal to make people sit down and take their life’s joy seriously wherever they’re at,” Noriega said. “I want people to have as much peace as they can in a world that is always crushing us.”

COVER FEATURE Noriega’s journey included many steps to get to the art career she has made for herself. In high school, a sparked interest in her dad’s film camera led her to an internship at the MoCA, Museum of Contemporary Art in Miami. While she was in a photojournalism internship, she met many others in her field and learned about their high school art programs, which led to taking her own in junior year. A picture of Taylor Swift she drew in the art program stood out to everyone and it was then she saw firsthand the excitement of others through her art. As Noriega moved through life, her classes and internships with Art Basel and ArtNexus showed her that her love of art could be turned into a viable career path. “I was ultimately so happy in art spaces with other artists, and being able to communicate in the same language and have people resonate with it was very important to me,” Noriega explained. With each internship, Noriega loved it all. Through set up and break down, Noriega saw behind the scenes of the art shows hosted in Art Basel and ArtNexus. Noriega kept an open mind through all galleries and owning her own is a goal Noriega often contemplates. “I love the idea of owning a gallery,” she said. “Being around that community of art lovers always made me feel really good.” Much like other artists, Noriega can’t pinpoint her favorite piece of art, though she sits with what she recently created for her exhibition with Art Basel.

Prior to the exhibition, Noriega felt apprehensive about her creations, but knew she had to be brave and find a style. So she took this time to challenge what she had known. The pieces that came out on the other end of her block merged how she creates art for others to feel joy, although a lot is going on in her mind that requires her to keep the joy on the surface.
@reynanoriega_
Noriega has designed for big corporations such as Old Navy, Starbucks, Target and Goody. One of her most popular prints, “Aqua Womxn,” was the feature design for Old Navy’s 2021 Black History Month t-shirt where they sold 50,000 shirts in just over two weeks. With every collaboration, Noriega feels grateful to have had a part in it. “It means so much because of the impact it’ll have and what it shows to other artists as far as what’s possible,” Noriega said. More importantly, her collaborations bring representation to the companies’ customers as they bring a natural diversity to make people feel more included. Representation matters in art to push culture forward. “Art resonates a lot when you’re not having to scream, fight and beg people for it. Rather, it’s represented in a beautiful piece of artwork.” Although these large corporations stand out, public, large-scale murals are among her favorite to create. Noriega’s art with Warby Parker and Brookfield Place are two that come to mind.
“I’ve been able to witness kids and young people looking at the art and what it represents in awe,” she said. “I’ve had parents tell me their kids haven’t taken off their Old Navy shirt.” To give back to the art community and all those within it, Noriega feels it’s crucial to pay it forward with all that she’s been able to achieve. She works with organizations and clubs with disadvantaged people to bring art resources to those who need them. Noriega sees herself as an open book and a resource for those who need it to share what she’s learned. For the years ahead, Noriega plans to keep herself open to doing more. Her interests in fashion, writing and design have allowed her to expand her projects and bring her ideas to life when she’s stuck in one area. To celebrate Black History Month, Noriega has something in the works and is excited to see future plans. Follow along with Noriega’s journey and artwork as she brings representation to life on all canvases.

ECOLO-CHIC Sustainability Meets the Height of Luxury at Château Troplong Mondot, Bordeaux

MANN OVERBOARD
W
e had a landmark year in 2023 of sustainability achievements at Château Troplong Mondot, the Premier Grand Cru wine estate and boutique hotel in Bordeaux that embodies an intentional commitment to environmental stewardship.
As a steadfast advocate of sustainable practices, an understanding of the environmental impact of the estate is the axis on which pivots every decision made by the estate—from the choice of animals that reside on the estate down to the zero single-use plastic policy shared with all their suppliers. Last year, the Château not only celebrated 30 years of insecticide- and herbicide-free cultivation, but also transitioned to being fully plowed by its resident twelve horses that roam the vineyard between March and November. The integral role that animals play on the estate runs from these beloved horses down to the Indian runner ducks, left in the gardens to eat the slugs at leisure, whilst the pigs and chickens gobble up all organic waste. Château Troplong Mondot’s destination restaurant, Les Belles Perdrix,
boasts Chef David Charrier’s innovative cuisine and hyper-seasonal menus that capitalize on the season’s best picks from the kitchen garden and sourced produce from handpicked local suppliers. The restaurant has fast become the most sought-after table in the area and has been awarded both a Michelin Star and a Green Star in recognition of its sustainable methods. Day visitors and guests of the hotel seeking a more intimate experience can take advantage of the private Chef’s Table, hosted on Thursdays only, where Chef Charrier will reveal the art of preparing a Michelin Star meal at close quarters, indulging guests in off-menu dishes that are entirely guided by what is in season on the day. Elsewhere, the estate’s compassion for the land is evident from the winemaking process to the thoughtfully designed ecology-chic rooms, which harness the power of the surrounding green landscape. The properties, which include the magnificent white stone country house The Keys and the more secluded Vineyard House, embrace the utilization of vine shoots pruned during winter to provide eco-friendly heating for its buildings. Rates at The Keys of Troplong Mondot start from €250 (approx. $274) per room, per night on a B&B basis. troplong-mondot.com

espoke Aesthetics: A Glamorous Oasis
I recognize how fortunate I am to be less than 30 minutes from the glamorous oasis known as Bespoke Aesthetics. Perfectly situated along Flagler Drive overlooking the Palm Beach Yacht Club, my shoulders relax and I release an audible exhale. Everything you experience will have you feeling like you are at home, that blend of comfort and opulence at this luxury practice.
Your arrival is anything but ordinary: a warm greeting, a Pellegrino, coffee or tea, and a most inviting guest area. I opted for coffee while I waited to be called into my consultation with the owner, Cristina Monaco PA-C. Sitting across from her, and sharing some of my ideas for treatments, I was most interested in hearing what she recommended. After all, she is the one with the expertise in anti-aging and cutting-edge aesthetic techniques. We both agreed that starting with a CoolPeel® Laser Treatment suited me to address some of those unwanted fine lines and sunspots. Per Monaco, “CoolPeel® Laser Treatments reveal healthier, younger-looking skin with no downtime! CoolPeel is the latest laser resurfacing treatment that can minimize the appearance of wrinkles, dark spots and acne scars. It’s a great treatment to reverse skin damage and reduce the signs of aging.” One similarity to fractal lasers, the benefit is no downtime so you can have a treatment and be ready for those social outings. Making Bespoke special is the primary focus on ensuring clients receive the highest quality in both products and services. Monaco curates the experience from the moment of entry through post-treatment. After
BY MARGARET BASTICK LUCE completing my initial CoolPeel® Laser Treatment, I looked sunburned; however, with the use of exomes, the redness dissipated immediately. Monaco suggested three applications, and I will most certainly return for the other two treatments. I can’t tell you the number of compliments I have received over the past few weeks. I have heard so many friends, family and community members say they notice a considerable difference that includes the diminishment of my fine lines and sunspots. Often asked where I go and what I do to maintain and elevate my healthy glow. I am always open to sharing and since starting my journey at Bespoke Aesthetics, I readily say that consultation and treatment with Monaco is well worth it. I will be popping in again for my next treatment and maybe some other little goodies that she has in store for me. With an eye on the menu, I am focused on the body which many women forget, and that it isn’t just our hands and neck that need tender loving care. It is the whole body from the inside out that needs to be cared for not just once but continually. Noting that my hands needed a bit of attention, Monaco treated them and now I am being a good girl and wearing my driving gloves. The sun in Florida is quite harsh, and I feel that this could be a long-lasting relationship as I enjoy my time with Monaco and the team at Bespoke. Enjoying her company and her thoughtful approach leaving the most natural results. I am pondering what treatments from the Bespoke Aesthetics menu I will choose during future visits. With so many wonderful applications and opportunities to be my best, I am considering bringing out the big guns so stay tuned for the next reveal. The Journey 1884 Marks a New Era for Victorinox Watches The new Victorinox Journey 1884 is not just a watch. It is the first leg of a new journey for Victorinox watches and a statement infusing the feeling of freedom and the energy of the Swiss mountains into everyday adventures. Let this journey begin! Imagine hiking on a spectacular ridge in the Swiss Alps, following the path lost in thought and enjoying the calmness and the breathtaking views whilst deeply inhaling the fresh mountain air. This is the inspiration behind the Victorinox Journey 1884, the new companion that can be relied upon for hiking adventures and much more. The watch pays tribute to its inspiration with a band design replicating the Swiss hiking signs, a dial featuring the rough texture of a natural hiking path and a practical and sporty rubber strap. The Swiss Army Knife, a standard item on hikes, is evoked in the counterweight of the second hand. In addition, the case features strong shapes and curves, and the notch at six o’clock on the bezel looks as if it has been carved out by a sharp pocketknife. The industrial roots of the brand are reflected in the finish of the case, in the engraved material code, and in the founding year, 1884 proudly presented on the bezel. ISO-certified for shock and water resistance, each watch gives the owner maximum freedom during any activity, whether he is wearing the sportier quartz or the more sophisticated automatic version. The latter takes its inspiration from urban adventures and city travel. It offers a prominent highly tridimensional architectural dial paired with an elegant ceramic bezel echoing modern city skylines. And because even urban explorers long for the real outdoors, the automatic version features the color yellow as seen on Swiss hiking signs and the rough-textured part of the dial as a nod to the collection’s hiking roots. They said it couldn’t be done. We didn’t listen.
We’ve done hard things before, we do them all the time. For most cancer patients, the usual options are surgery, chemotherapy, or radiation. So we’re working on ways to get the immune system to deploy billions of cancer-killing cells and help more patients survive. When some people experienced mysterious COVID symptoms and had nowhere to go, our team created the first Center for Post-COVID Care. It wasn’t that long ago we had to open up your whole chest for heart surgery. Now we’re pioneering a bypass that goes through a few tiny incisions. With this surgery, we can get you back on your feet in weeks instead of months. So if anyone ever tells you there’s no other way—don’t listen.

Third Generation Art World Powerhouse
BY BENNETT MARCUS Isabelle Bscher was born into this world of art; it is her destiny. She is the third generation to run Galerie Gmurzynska, founded by her grandmother, Antonina Gmurzynska, in Cologne, Germany. Bscher’s mother, Krystyna Gmurzynska, took over the gallery in 1985, relocated the flagship to Switzerland in 2005, and mother and daughter now work together. 84 MANN ABOUT TOWN • FEBRUARY 2024
ARTS & AFFAIRS

Art world dynasty Bscher grew up in the gallery - a red cube designed by Swiss architect Roger Diener, connected to the family’s house in Cologne - surrounded by priceless artworks and glittering art-world personalities. She joked that she learned to walk at Art Basel, accompanying her mother to the fair since infancy. “The gallery and my life have been so deeply intertwined, it’s hard to separate one and the other,” Bscher said. “I felt from a very early point that I was part of it; I always knew I wanted to be a gallerist.” Working full-time at the gallery by age 22, Bscher remembers how excited she was to work with artists. “One of the fi rst exhibits I was able to co-organize was with Hedi Slimane, who in addition to being a phenomenal fashion designer is also a great photographer,” she said. After relocating the gallery to Zurich, another early career thrill for Bscher was working on the Alexander Calder show that launched the new space. “I remember specific shows that meant a lot.” Now with four locations, two in Zurich, one in the affluent Swiss enclave of Zug, and another in New York City, they represent major modern artists like Picasso, Kandinsky, James Turrell, Robert Indiana and Yves Klein, as well as Karl Lagerfeld’s photography, Sylvester Stallone’s paintings and architects Zaha Hadid and Richard Meier, who has used the gallery’s catalogs in his collages, and who once designed their booth at Art Basel Miami. Galerie Gmurzynska represents the estates of prominent artists including Wilfredo Lam, Roberto Matta, Nevelson and Spanish surrealist Joan Miró, with whose family Bscher works closely. Sought-After Guest Curator An art historian who studied contemporary art in London and New York and earned a master’s degree from Sotheby’s, Bscher is in demand to curate shows at museums around the world. She co-curated a Miró exhibit at Villa Paloma, the New National Museum of Monaco, under the guidance of Prince Albert. It included early works and lesser-known later pieces, some of which had never been shown before, as well as some that are a part of pop culture, like the painting behind Gordon Gekko’s desk in the movie “Wall Street.” “It was a great show. It actually drew the most visitors ever to the museum in Monaco, and it was at the height of Covid,” Bscher said. Bscher organized a retrospective of Sylvester Stallone’s 55-year painting career for the Osthaus
Museum in Hagen, Germany. “It’s a beautiful museum; it’s going to be a big show called ‘Painting for 55 Years.’ He’s been making paintings since the mid-1960s, and I think people have a certain perception of him, but he is very sophisticated, with a great use of color and form in his work.” Stallone is also a lot of fun, Bscher noted.
Colorful Characters Living among such colorful characters, Bscher certainly has stories to tell. She calls Karl Lagerfeld “the king of the one-liner.” “Everything he said was incredibly funny. He’d ask me about somebody, and I’d say, ‘They have a lot of tattoos,’ and he would say, ‘Having a tattoo is like spending your whole life in a Pucci dress.’” Zaha Hadid was an expert on the Russian avant-garde, on which she wrote her thesis. This was an area in which Galerie Gmurzynska was a pioneer early on, and which helped make its name in the art world. They brought Hadid in to curate a show of her own work along with pieces from Bscher’s mother’s collection.
Bscher also had a close relationship with Christo, with whom she collaborated on exhibits at various art fairs, like TEFAF and Art Expo Chicago. They met after the artist’s wife and partner, Jeanne Claude, had passed away, and prior to his 2016 Floating Piers project in Italy. “We did a show of his fi nished and unfi nished projects in St. Moritz, and I became quite friendly with him,” Bscher said. “Christo was the greatest.” Great Grandfather Saved Oppenheim Bank Bscher’s father came from a very old German family that had started as cotton merchants. Her great-grandfather Robert Pferdmenges was a wellknown banker, head of the banker’s union in Germany, and prominent in the Protestant church. He joined Oppenheim Bank, then the largest private bank in Europe, as a partner around 1930. Under Nazi law, Oppenheim’s Jewish owners were forced to step aside, and the bank was “Aryanized,” its name changed to “Robert Pferdmenges & Co.” After the war, he returned control of the bank to the Oppenheim family. It was one of only two businesses seized from Jews that were given back to the original owners after the war. Oppenheim continued in business until 2010 when it was acquired by Deutsche Bank in the aftermath of the 2008 fi nancial crisis. gmurzynska.com

Tony Fortuna OCTOBER 1947-JANUARY 2024 NEW YORK CITY HAS LOST A DEAR FRIEND On behalf of my wife Annie and I, it is with deepest sympathy we have to say goodbye to Mr. Tony Fortuna. Tony was a dear friend of ours for over 30 years as he was with most of New York City and anyone that got to know him. T-Bar has delicious food, a great staff and a great crowd. Tony brought a special touch into the place as he knew everyone that walked in. Anyone who walked in, Tony saw as a friend and he couldn’t do enough to make everyone feel welcome. Tony, on behalf of myself and Annie, along with our friends and the people of NYC, we will miss you very much. No restaurateur has the warmth, personality and love that makes dining in your place a great experience. We will remember you forever. With much love, Annie and Jeff Mann
