I am delighted to have a presence in the first magazine from the Malta Chamber of Construction Management. I want to take this opportunity to congratulate the MCCM for your commitment to drive up standards in construction and help make our industry the best it can be. Malta holds a special place for me – it has been a bit of a touchstone in my time with CIOB. Chamber President, Jesmond Chetcuti MCIOB, and I met a little over two years ago and talked at length about the need to raise the standards of quality in construction, a goal for CIOB’s global membership, not just for our members in Malta.

It’s notable that from those first conversations in 2020, talking about priorities for the construction sector in Malta, to my visit last year, seeing for myself how the MCCM is developing, how much progress has been made. Those conversations about professionalism, about quality, about how the experience and skills of construction managers can be recognised and supported feel like they’ve come to life.

I was also delighted to recently receive a certificate from the MCCM, confirming that I’m an honorary member. This is particularly meaningful to me as this is the first award of this nature I have been given in my time at CIOB. I couldn’t be more delighted that it is with MCCM, as you have done great work in the last couple of years to get established and to start on your mission to raise standards across the industry.

It’s also right to acknowledge there is more to come - taking on the challenge of committing to professional development and undertaking to maintain a rigorous set of standards is a big responsibility. It will also help in driving the industry forward, an ambition shared by the Chartered Institute of Building. Caroline Gumble - CEO “On behalf of our Chamber, I am proud and delighted to present our readers with this first edition of ‘’Managing Construction’’. The production of this publication is another milestone in the short life of our chamber. The chosen date for this first special edition coincides with the chamber’s first anniversary. This was a year full of challenging work that followed in the footsteps of the example set during the previous months, before the official registration with the local authorities. In conjunction with this publication, the various sub committees and working groups presently in operation, are working on another two major projects, one of which is the MCCM CIOB Heritage Conference that is going to be held in Malta this coming November. Due to our partnership with the Chartered Institute of Building, this Conference will be bringing together delegates from the UK and from other European countries.

The other major project is the publication of the Guidance Notes for the Local Construction Project Manager. This is another project that is being produced in partnership with the CIOB.

This magazine aims not only to regularly inform those involved and interested in the local construction industry about the work being done by our chamber, but more importantly it intends to be a showcase for other technical subjects and titles that might be useful to our readers. Special thanks go to the members of the editorial team, led by Ruben Caruana and to the rest of the team members; Andrei Cauchi who is also the council representative in this team, Karl Chapman and Marc V Spiteri. Heartfelt thanks go also to all the other contributors.
