Gurwin Jewish Healthcare Foundation holds “From Generation to Generation: A Celebration Gala” Fundraising event honors Carol Lee and Jerry W. Levin of Manhattan and Westhampton Edited by: JV Staff
T
he Gurwin Jewish Healthcare Foundation held a benefit Gala on June 8, honoring Manhattan’s Carol Lee and Jerry W. Levin with the Community Leaders Award for their dedication to the Gurwin philosophy of care and caring. The annual Gala is held to benefit the many Gurwin programs that serve the frail elderly and younger seniors on Long Island. In addition to honoring the Levins, the event honored Howard L. Phillips (Centerport) with the Joseph Gurwin Leadership Award and Sheri and Shelly Goldman (Dix Hills) with the Generation to Generation Award. Mrs. Levin’s commitment to Jewish Leadership and community philanthropy began at an early age and continued in each of the communities she has lived. She is the founder of Women’s Optimal Wellness Now, which received an award from the US government for outstanding service in the health arena. She also gets full credit for introducing her husband Jerry to Jewish community involvement. Her current leadership
roles include President of The Hampton’s Synagogue, Executive Vice President of the Yiddish Theater Folksbiene, Co–Chair of the Community Holocaust Initiative, member of the board of Self Help and the Jewish Board, Vice President of the Jewish Book Council, member of the board of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Washington, DC, and a New York State Chaplain. Mr. Levin is the person people call to turn their companies around – and someone the community has relied on for unparalleled support. Throughout his career of more than 40 years, he’s been at the hub of restructures throughout the corporate and nonprofit worlds. Jerry is currently the CEO of JW Levin Management Partners LLC, an executive management and investment firm, and Executive Chairman of Lasko Products, Inc, the world’s largest supplier of fans and heaters. Jerry currently serves on the Boards of UJA Federation of NY, the Jewish Community Relations Council, RAJE International, Honeymoon Israel, ReThink Israel, the Recanati School of Tel Aviv University,
