Our outstanding teachers

New Zealand’s longest running teaching awards are encouraging parents, and all school community members to nominate extraordinary educators who have displayed outstanding dedication, passion and creativity in the past year.

For 27 years the Futurity Investment Group supported, National Excellence in Teaching Awards (NEiTA) has recognised Australia and New Zealand’s most inspirational educators. This year, NEiTA is recognising the critical role early childhood, primary and secondary teachers and principals have played in children’s lives throughout the COVID-19 crisis. Futurity CEO, Ross Higgins says the annual NEiTA Awards are an important opportunity to shine a light on the nation’s exceptional teachers – and in so doing help elevate the teaching profession as a whole. “There are many talented, committed and caring teachers in kura classrooms all over New Zealand who are unsung heroes. They deserve to be recognised,” Ross says. “Education changes lives but the best teachers truly transform futures. With the challenges triggered by COVID-19, the best teachers adapted their practice for remote learning, finding new ways to engage and enthuse students.”

Recent research commissioned by Futurity Investment Group found 64 percent of parents believe teachers are not sufficiently recognised. The lack of recognition is one reason many young teachers leave the profession. The theme of the 2021 NEiTA Awards is “Education Changes Lives. Teachers Transform Futures”

Nominations can be made until 18 August 2021, via: www.neita.com.

Convert your Taymac coal boiler to biomass

You will be aware of the increasing climate concerns surrounding the use of coal and other fossil fuels.

The Government is committed to taking New Zealand towards a carbon free future where the use of fossil fuels is diminished. Taymac manufactures new boilers, or can convert any existing Taymac boiler, (or any boiler using a Taymac or Taylors coal stoker) to operate on wood pellets. In Canterbury, the replacement or conversion of coal fired boiler plant to biomass operation is so well established that for installations up to 1MW, ECan (the regional authority) will usually permit conversion with no further need for a resource consent.

If your present boiler really has reached the end of its operating life, then the most economical replacement alternative is a new Taymac biomass boiler. It will bolt into place with no need to modify the existing installation. Typically, a ‘like-for-like’ replacement is around half the cost of the alternatives. If the boiler is still in reasonable order, then, in most cases a conversion is relatively easy and by far the most economical route to biomass.

Even though your boiler plant may be old, provided that it is in adequate condition now, when converted it will be good for many years to come. Quite apart from the updates to the fuel feed and control systems, operation on biomass is considerably more benign to a boiler than is coal. Many boilers 30 years old or more have been converted to operate on wood pellets and continue to operate reliably and without difficulty.

“If your present boiler really has reached the end of its operating life, then the most economical replacement alternative is a new Taymac biomass boiler.”
