Latest drilling technology delivers neighbour friendly results Adding two new Gefco 185k and upgraded 200k shallow oil and gas rigs to its fleet of 25 drill rigs is delivering substantially to Clemence Drilling Contractors’ ability to perform deep investigations of ground water wells and other work. Dave Clemence, the owner of the well drilling and water system installation and maintenance company based near Kaiapoi, says this new equipment is part of Clemence Drilling’s commitment to constant improvement. Keeping up with technology is an important focus for the company. It has installed GPS tracking systems in key fleet assets to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of its irrigation and earthmoving projects. The design of a new irrigation system can be transferred to a portable memory stick and inserted into the computer system on a machine, to guide the earthmoving and cutting to exact measurements. The other business in the Harmer group is Mt Hutt Lime, founded in 2015 and owned both by Jon, Emma and Jeanette and Jack Harmer. It supplies a wide range of agricultural limestone and limestone diary track from three quarries in the Methven and Mt Somers area. It is one of the biggest suppliers and installers of dairy track in Canterbury.

The two new vibration-less rigs join an extensive fleet of equipment, which also includes a low noise rig. Clemence Drilling developed this equipment following the Christchurch earthquakes. “People were pretty nervous about vibrations following the earthquakes. I developed this equipment which is much more neighbour friendly.
The company’s fleet also includes 25 drilling rigs, diggers, generators to 850KVA, a large variety of pumps and a fleet of support vehicles.
