Oh, did I mention you won’t be sitting in the passenger seat? You will be taking the wheel – need I say more? SuperThriller is the ultimate jetsprint experience: test your skills behind the wheel of a 100hp jetsprint boat, capable of speeds up 60kph, in a race against the clock. “People who’ve been to SuperThriller say it’s addictive and I agree,” says SuperThriller event coordinator Nick Greenslade. “The sound, speed, spray and wind in your face as you take on the challenge of refining your technique, on each lap, to better your time.” The ear-to-ear grins from competitors say it all. The boats are custom-made and designed by New Zealander Mark Coggan. Made from CNC machined aluminium, the hull is extremely light giving the boat great power-to-weight ratio ensuring they’re up and planing in an instant. “They are safe and easy to drive, with enough power to give an exciting ride for novices through to petrol heads — I was hooked from my first drive,” Nick says. There’s no doubt you will be to.
The boats are kept in top operating condition with a mechanical engineer on staff. “We run a comprehensive preventative maintenance programme and also have scheduled maintenance for every 25 hours of engine use.” And Maritime New Zealand keep a close eye on things as well. “We are licensed to operate by Maritime New Zealand. They thoroughly assessed our operation prior to opening and audit us each year to ensure we comply with the rigorous standards for safe operation.” The set up at Colin Dale Motorsport Park is “ideal”. It enables SuperThriller to operate in a controlled environment with a purpose-built lake. The original circuits were designed by Mark as well and have been improved as the team gained more experience. “They’re designed to be challenging yet easy enough for the competitors to navigate.”
