here is a lovely clarity that comes from a distinctive style paired with a clear methodology. Karma Dog Construction, founded in 2004, uses their vision and skill to focus on a barn modern aesthetic with a green building philosophy. President Preston Addison says: “Barn modern best describes our work. We appreciate the beauty and efficiency of older buildings. Green building and passive design have also been a part of our process for decades because they yield the most efficient product.” The company has been building and designing homes in Northern California Wine Country for nearly 20 years, and prides itself on long-standing relationships with clients and vendors. “We listen to client needs, respect our team of employees and subcontractors by building long-term relationships,” says Vice President Micah Addison. “Strong collaboration brings out the best in each team member and project, and is reflected

in the community we build.” “Our team members also take pride in their ability to develop trusting, long-term relationships with our clients.” Preston weighs in to add, “We are experts in maximizing a site’s building potential.”

How do you include the client in your creative process? Preston: Clients are central to our process and their influences are integral to our designs. We nurture the design ideas in each client while bringing the influence of our aesthetic and the importance of natural forms and function into the final product. What communities do you work in? Micah: We work primarily in Northern California Wine Country: Asti, Healdsburg, Geyserville and Cloverdale. Many homes we remodel are older and historical. We strive to maintain their character while creating modern upgrades— blending the best of the old and new. How can clients work with trade professionals to ensure a painless design process? Preston: Find a designer you can trust; one that respects your ideas and budget.
