an interview with
KILLSTAR by SUMMER LEE @summerannelee / @killstarco KILLSTAR is a U.K.-based fashion and lifestyle brand, which caters exclusively to lovers of darkness and the occult. When it was established in 2010, the brand sold only t-shirts and hoodies. Now, KILLSTAR is a one-stop-shop for all gothic goods, from studded leather jackets to coffin-shaped journals. Every piece is unmistakably goth, with many featuring mystical symbols such as the pentagram and the ankh. Other pieces evoke the paranormal, printed with ouija boards and chilling graveyards. With autumn upon us and Halloween just around the corner, it’s time to get witchy - and KILLSTAR can more than accommodate your need for something spooky. Creative Art Director Tequila Star gave us the inside scoop on KILLSTAR’s mission, current projects, and her opinion on the color pink!
Q: An outsider might imagine gothic swimwear to involve pantaloons and parasols. However, your uniquely KILLSTAR swimwear line destroys those notions with its sexiness and edginess. What are some must-haves for a gothic swimsuit? A: Nowadays swim can be almost anything - we try to incorporate our love for flattering silhouettes, dark occult vibez, and
badass prints into everything we do, including swimwear. For me, a gothic swimsuit should boost one’s confidence - as swim can be somewhat of a self-conscious affair for most, especially me! But with a hot af bikini - you feel better about showing some skin. With SPF 100 of course. And by all means - if I find an all-black parasol; it’ll be sure to come too! Q: After browsing through your online merchandise, I’ve gathered that the KILLSTAR color palate is majorly black with white accents. There is, however, a significant collection of pieces all in pastel pink! Why is pink the exception to KILLSTAR’s all-black rule?
A: In a way it’s actually a mystery - I am an all-black-everything kinda girl - but I do have a spell here and there with odd color
