EX-STUDENTS' UNION

Celia Sheldon | Ex-StudentS' Union President

What a year it has been! Despite the challenges we have managed to connect with our community in many creative ways. Our uniquely memorable Mother Daughter Mass back in May brought together over 800 mothers, daughters, grandmothers, sisters, aunts and special friends, in a beautiful celebration at St Mary’s Cathedral. We look forward to seeing you all again next year.

In June we held another successful evening at the Capitol Theatre, with almost 200 members and friends enjoying the highly acclaimed musical, Come From Away. Thank you to Ruth Tighe from the Ex-Students’ Committee and Patsy Shannon from Loreto Normanhurst’s committee for their hard work in organising this combined annual event, and to all who contributed to its success. The Theatre Party for 2022 will be Mary Poppins on Sunday 29 May at 1.00pm.

Our major Bursary fundraiser and community gathering, the GOLF DAY & DINNER - originally planned for September 2020 - has been rescheduled to 8 September 2022. We are really looking forward to hosting this fabulous event in support of the Bursary Fund: an opportunity for all generations of ex-students to get involved, to make new friends and reconnect with old ones. Registrations remain open and remember it’s not just for golfers but anyone keen to be involved. Please put the date in your diary and gather your friends. More details early next year. https://events.humanitix.com/golf2021

Our major focus for 2022 is increasing awareness of the Ex-Students’ Union Bursary Fund and raising the profile of the Union among younger members. We are very grateful for the generous response to our recent Bursary Fund Appeal. The Bursary programme has been a mainstay of the Union for almost 100 years, assisting countless students to maintain their education at Loreto in times of family hardship. Your support of this worthy cause and of the Union’s activities is always greatly appreciated and we look forward to more opportunities to enrich our community in 2022.

I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the members of the ExStudents’ Committee for their ongoing support and tireless commitment to the Union. There is much reward in giving of yourself, making time for the little things and I am continually amazed by what we manage to achieve. Anyone interested in joining us is always welcome to contact me.
