Now imagine that same neighbor knocks on your door. This time, he asks to borrow fifty dollars to help make ends meet until the next payday. Does that feel different? Is it better to give money or time? They are equally important but different, and they give you different benefits. If you happen to find yourself with more money than time, then give more money than time. If you have more time than money, then give more time. But always try to give a little of each.

Practice: 1. In your journal, write on the following questions. How do you feel when someone asks you for your time? How do you feel when someone asks you for your money? Do you have more money than time or more time than money? 2. Today, perform a charitable action like writing your church’s newsletter, coaching a local children’s sports team, or making a small donation.
