Garden City High School Sports Highlights
Fall
• Varsity Field Hockey wins the Nassau County Championship, Long Island Championship and advances to their second consecutive NYS Class B Championship.
• Varsity Football wins a Nassau County record seventh consecutive Nassau County Conference 2 Championship defeating Mepham High School and goes on to repeat as the Long Island Champions defeating Bellport HS.
• Boys Cross Country wins the Divisional Title and advances 6 runners to the NYS Championships.
• Boys Soccer and Girls Soccer advance to the Nassau County Championship Finals.
• Stevie Finnell is name the New York State Co-Player of the Year in football by the New York State Sports Writers Association.
• Stevie Finnell named Thorpe Award winner as Nassau County top player.
• Sawyer Olsen named Martone Award winner as Nassau County top lineman.
• Nina Wiese finishes third Nassau County in girls tennis first singles and advances to the NYS Championships.
• Rory Heslin named Newsday Field Hockey Player of the Year.
• Maddie Connor qualifies for the state championship in four events- Earn Co-MVP Championship honors.
• 1st place in the 100 Freestyle –New School Record: 51.83.
• 1st Place in the 200 Freestyle: 1:51.38
Winter
• Alex Colletti breaks school indoor track record in the 300M – 35.91.
• Alex Colletti wins the Nassau County Indoor Track 600M Championship in 1:24.58.
• Girls’ Indoor Track wins the 4x400 Nassau County Championship and advanced to the NYS Championships.
• Boys’ Indoor Track wins the 4x200 Nassau County Championship and advanced to the NYS Championships.
Spring
• Girls’ Lacrosse wins the Nassau County Championship, Long Island Championship and was a NYS Finalist.
• Boys Lacrosse won the Nassau County Championship, Long Island Championship and a second consecutive NYS Class B Championship.
• Rory Heslin wins the Spring Track and Field Nassau County Championship in the 600M, and goes on to finish 5th at the NYS Championships.
• Alex Colletti wins the Nassau County Championship in the 400M and breaks the school record with a time of 49.7.
• Owen Holtzman finishes sixth in NYS Championship for shot put.
• 4x400 Relay Team finishes sixth at the NYS Championships.
• Stevie Finnell named the recipient of the Tom Flatley Award as the top male athlete in Nassau to excel in football and lacrosse.
