Metka Vergnion The photographs displayed in this exhibition are inspired by Japan, the country that fascinates me since many years by its beauty, cultural difference, ancient tradition and philosophy. The “Spiritual garden” series represent dry landscape gardens, their graphical aesthetics and spiritual values. Through numerous visits to gardens in Kyoto and around Japan I became aware of their mystical roots and tried to replicate their inherent feelings of peace and serenity into my work. Symbolic graphical elements where nature is reduced to its abstract form, incite creativity. To convey the essence of these gardens I applied a reduced colour palette along with superpositions and subtractions as a technical means. The process of assembling these images brings to mind the same inspirational challenges that gardener needs to overcome, when raking the gravel into the patterns inside zen gardens. I studied photography/film at ENS Louis Lumière in Paris, participated in numerous group/solo exhibitions in Europe and Asia. Book: ”Extracted from time 1970-2017”
