The Limestone Cheerleading team has grown in the past year to become a big part of athletics at Limestone College. This year, Limestone took a step forward in becoming a competitive squad by adding guys and high elevated stunts to the routines. This year's squad had lots of school spirit for the Saints basketball teams by attending away games and keeping the crowd alive at the Timken Center. Limestone Cheerleading shows lots of spirit not only for the basketball team, but for the whole Athletic Department. Limestone Cheerleading has made a lot of progress and has hopes of hosting a competition here at Limestone.

eOU, the boards
What a year it was for the Men's Basketball team. Not only did the team achieve a CVAC tourney berth, they also made it to the semifinals of the tournament for the first time in the history of the men's basketball program. Moreover, the Saints were able to accomplish another first for the program since joining the CVAC: a winning record of 15-14. Although they faced some tough losses in games that could have gone either way, the Saints were still able to rally their efforts and win games they weren't expected to win Of these games it was their win over Pfeiffer University, #1 ranked team in the CVAC and the East Region, that will go down as one of Limestone's greatest victories. Shooting a net-searing 65% from the field and 56% from beyond the are, Limestone pulled out all the stops and matched Pfeiffer toe to toe. In the end, the Saints pulled off a 108-105 win over the Falcons in overtime, which sent players and fans into a frenzy.

Despite having a season that wasn't the most impressive, the Women's Basketball team still did quite well. As in past years, the Lady Saints went to the CVAC tournament, coming in as the 11,h seed, but unfortunately, were defeated by the 6th ranked Mount Olive Trojans. Even though their final record wasn't nearly as impressive as their male counterparts, they should still be given credit for a hard-fought season. In 8 games, the Lady Saints lost by 6 or fewer points, which, if careless mistakes weren't made, could have gone their way. However, Head Coach Corey Fox believes that the 2005-2006 season should be an exciting one because he has only lost three seniors, and the returning crop is expected to be quite strong.

This year, the Limestone Baseball team has performed at their true potential. Winning became almost a routine for them, and despite making it look so easy, these guys were by no means complacent. They really played their hearts out. At the end of the regular season, the Saints were 17-7 in the conference, a record that allowed them to clinch the top spot In the CVAC. This is the first time the Saints have finished in the #1 position in the conference since Head Coach Chico Lombardo joined the athletic staff at Limestone College more than a decade ago. Congratulations, guys on a well-played season.

To say that this year's softball team was lacking college experience would be an understatement. Of the 18 players on the team approximately half were freshmen, and of the remaining players, there were only four seniors and one junior. Did that stop the team from performing? Not in the least. For the second straight year, the Lady Saints made it to the finals of the conference tournament, winning their first two games, and losing the third. At the tournament, two of the Lady Saints were selected to the AII-CVAC teams. They were senior Courtney Silva and junior Amy Yates. Head Coach Jimmy Martin obviously had a good recruiting year as well, and if this year's performance was a sign of better things to come, then these ladles most definitely have a bright future ahead of them.

1Niswing of things
The Lady Saints Golf team ended their fall season in the high ranks of the CVAC. Therefore, it was no surprise when the Lady Saints were deservingly placed 3rd in the conference in the pre-spring polls. With a talented and hard-working team, there were great expectations that these ladies would have finished the season even higher, and once again, they didn't disappoint. The Lady Saints tied for 2nd at the CVAC tournament held near the end of April. In the CVAC Golf Championship, Holly Tomkins wrapped up an outstanding tournament with a final round 77.
In 2004, the men s golfteam put up some consistently strong scores, hanging in the middle of the pack in the conference. There were some very close losses, such as their defeat by Gardner-Webb University, being out shot by a mere 13 points, while there were some pretty impressive showings at tournaments, such as a 4th place finish in a field of 14 at the St. Andrews Invitational Tournament. Limestone's men finished 10th . With a strong lineup and a crop of young, talented players, the Saints will hopefully continue to succeed in their future seasons.

Although the Limestone Men's Soccer team didn't have the most impressive record, the record really doesn't do the team justice. The program is undergoing a turnaround, and like most programs in the construction process, wins aren't automatic. However, the team did win one more match compared to last season, and quite a number of the conference games were lost by relatively small margins, with the final game of the season being lost in double overtime to St. Andrews College, 2 goals to 1. Moreover, the team was very young and lacking college soccer experience, so next season Coach Eric Alsop is certain that there will be an improvement in team cohesion and experience, which will hopefully be transformed into more wins.

Last year, survival was the only thought on the minds of the Lady Saints. Recording only 4 wins, they just wanted to make it through the season. This year, however, not only did the Lady Saints survive; they accomplished a total of seven victories and were forced to accept some very close defeats that could quite easily have gone either way. In addition, they also qualified for the CVAC tournament at Mount Olive College, and most importantly, they proved to the rest of the conference that they too are a force to be reckoned With We can expect greater things in the future for this team.

The Women's Volleyball team did very well for themselves in their season. Not only did they record their greatest number of wins since joining the NCAA in 1997, but they also made it to the conference tournament for the 2nd year running. In addition, quite a number of the Lady Saints took high honors in the CVAC, consisting of blocks, assists, and digs. With a complete season behind them, many returning freshmen are expected to raise the bar even higher in the fall of 2005.

Continuing with a year of firsts for Limestone College, the Saints' swim team joined the Blue Grass Mountain Conference this past season. The conference is comprised of twelve women's teams and eight men's teams. At the conference championships, LC's relay teams all made it past the preliminaries and Into the finals of their events, which Included the 200 yard freestyle relay and the 400 yard medley relay, among others. Lady Saint, Jaime Madewell qualified for the finals in her pet events - the 100 and 200 yard backstroke - giving Limestone its only individual qualifier at the meet's finals. As expected, the Men's Lacrosse team has dominated the Deep South Conference for the fifth year running. Even with the loss of a handful of key seniors, Limestone's lax team has really rallied together and proven that although there may be stars on a team, at the end of the day, nothing beats dedication, teamwork, and unity. This year, the Men's Lacrosse team made their 6th consecutive appearance in the national final, which was a new Division II record. The offense set an all time record with 339 goals. In the past five years the Limestone College Lacrosse team has won two Division II nationals and lost two by one point in overtime. Unfortunately, this year was one of those years.

Once again, the Lady Saints' Lacrosse team had quite a successful year. At the start of the season, Limestone had jumped out to a 3-0 start, and as the season progressed they continued to punish most of their opponents. However, they did fall victims themselves with some extremely close, heartbreaking losses. Despite these losses though, the Lady Saints still finished their regular season at the top of the CVAC rankings. In addition, four LC players were awarded AII-CVAC 1 51 Team honors. They were Andrea Poor on attack, Brooke Nowell and Marissa Pesce in the midfield, and Kristen Black on defense. Moreover, Andrea Poor was selected as the CVAC's "Freshman of the Year."

HISTORY IN THE MAKING: This year marked a number of firsts for Limestone College. The Baseball team finished #1 in the CVAC at the end of the regular season; the Men's Basketball team reached the semi-finals of the CVAC tournament; the Men's Tennis team finished in the top half of the CVAC. To top it all off, Limestone College now has a wrestling team. That's right, a wrestling team. The team is comprised of wrestlers ranging from Jersey, all along the Eastern Seaboard to Florida, as well as the mid-southern states. Limestone's Head Wrestling Coach Ben Stehura has been quite meticulous in his recruiting in order to build a winning program. This year, there IS only one graduating senior, and that's All-American John Richard, who finished 7th overall at the NCAA Division II National Championships held at the University of Nebraska Omaha. With many returning wrestlers, Limestone can look forward to great things from the newest member of its athletic family.

With a new coach at the helm, the Limestone College tennis program has made a complete turnaround. Head Coach Tyler Davis recorded his first NCAA win as a coach last fall against Wingate University The men's team clinched a 5-4 nail-biter, defeating a team that only a few months earlier had beaten them 8-1. The spring season was no exception either because the men's team posted their best winning percentage in the past five years. In doing so, they also recorded the most number of wins in a single season since joining the CVAC. Moreover, unlike last year, they qualified for the CVAC tournament and took an overall record of 10-10. The Limestone College men's tennis team tied for 5th in the Conference.

Although the Lady Saints took a substantial blow after losing their #1 and CVAC 151 Team All-Conference player, Rachel Aaron, they have fared quite well. Alexandra Gade, a freshman from Denmark, has stepped into Rachel's shoes, and thus far, has filled them quite nicely. As a runner-up and third place finisher at fall tournaments, Alexandra has turned some heads. With a sound line-up and support from Melanie Kragl and Jessie Griffin, the Lady Saints have also qualified for the conference tournament for the third straight year.

This year, the Limestone College Cross-Country team struggled with many obstacles to face. One of those obstacles was not having a permanent coach to keep the team on their toes. But next year, Kevin Vees, the assistant wrestling coach, will take on the challenge as head cross-country coach. He was a two time District and Region qualifier in cross country at Central Bucks West High School (PIAA 4A) in Doylestown, PA. At Johnson & Wales, where he earned his BA in Sports Management, he was a varsity starter in cross country. Despite the problems this year, powerhouse runners, Kristopher Chadwick and Susie Russell were MVPs for the men's and women's teams. With a great coach, there are only good things to come from the Limestone College Cross-Country team.
