n Rehearsals. The German Army in Belgium, August 1914 Jeff Lipkes Only €35,00 / £29.00 instead of €49,50 / £42.00 isbn 978 90 5867 596 5, paperback A detailed narrative history of the German invasion of Belgium in August 1914 as it affected civilians. Based on extensive eyewitness testimony, the book chronicles events in and around the towns of Liège, Aarschot, Andenne, Tamines, Dinant, and Leuven. People screamed, cried, and groaned. Above the tumult I could distinguish the voices of small children. All this time the soldiers were singing... Sometime after the first salvo, there was another round of fire and, once again, I was not hit. After this I heard fewer cries, save from time to time a small child calling its mother.’ – Félix Bourdon, survivor of a mass execution in Dinant

In the mass destruction of Leuven in 1914 the University Library was burned and completely destroyed. Thanks to generous American donations the new library building on the Mgr. Ladeuzeplein was established in 1921. Learn more about the history of this remarkable building:
