IN-FOCUS MUSEUMS & GALLERIES

Bringing joy and optimism Three new fine art ranges from Museums & Galleries are ready to spread some joy. Summer 2021 sees the UK entering a period of progressive opening up from the pandemic lockdown, and mirroring the buoyant mood Museums & Galleries has three new fine art greeting card ranges full of joy and optimism. Veteran British designer Sarah Campbell is exactly the relaxed joy we all need right now. With a career and portfolio stretching back 50 years, and still very much working today, Sarah’s exuberant sense of colour and her astute commercial appeal shines through in all her work. Museums & Galleries have launched a range of 16 blank cards, boxed notelets, two suites of gift packaging (gift wrap, gift bags, and gift tissue), bookmarks and two premium soft cover journals. The cards are all 7” x 5”, printed on texture board and come with white envelopes (SRP £2.50). In a bold colour palette, the imagery focuses on the pleasures of exotic travel, florals, animals and birds. Ben Dorney M&G’s Creative Director says, “We are really excited by Sarah’s work, it feels very suited to the M&G customer. We were drawn to Sarah’s joyful, expressive, vivid illustration and pattern.”

Catherine Rowe is a designer who seeks out the offbeat and unusual, and that applies to the animals in her card range – whether mythological unicorns, mermaids, or the more exotic types of earthly creature, like lemurs. “I had been sketching lemurs simply because they looked like fun to draw, and I wondered what elements I could include to complete the design,” Catherine says. “I like to research what plants etc. would be found naturally where the animal I am sketching lives - so I did some reading on Madagascar, famously home to the lemur. The baobab tree can be found on Madagascar, and I loved the look of their incredible fruits known locally as the miracle fruit for its impressive health benefits.” Catherine’s designs are luxurious, traditional, and classy with a contemporary and playful twist. All her artwork is drawn using scraper board, a highly unusual medium evocative of a Victorian etching. There are 20 square cards with accompanying white envelopes in her launch collection (SRP £2.75). A runaway success when introduced as gift stationery last year, Helen Ahpornsiri’s Wild Press range has been extended onto greetings cards this year. The launch collection features 16 intricately worked natural pressed foliage and petal collages depicting a kaleidoscope of animals, flowers, and pattern. Helen skilfully used traditional flower-pressing techniques to create truly inspirational, contemporary artworks. (SRP £2.65).
