On trend:

Inspired by nature

Lime Tree Design’s locket collection is perfect for Mothers’ Day. Especially this year when thoughtful, quality gifts are more relevant than ever. Made in UK from sterling silver and hallmarked in Birmingham, these locket and charm pieces take a classic and give it a contemporary twist. Part of a range of jewellery designed in the company’s Nottinghamshire studio and made from sterling silver and 18ct gold vermeil featuring gem stones and enamel work. The jewellery collection comes in a spread of prices from a pick-up gift for yourself to a more considered special occasion piece. There are no minimums and a range of packaging options to suit all retailers. The full collection is on the trade-only website, along with their textile range including a Liberty Collection of lavender sachets and hankies.

Celebrate spring with new, nature-inspired folding canes from Classic Canes: ladybirds, bees and British songbirds. The new patterns are full of joie-de-vivre and make excellent presents for Mother’s Day and birthdays. They are practical as well as pretty and are easily adjusted in height to suit the user. Unique to Classic Canes, they are based on artwork by managing director Charlotte Gillan, who says, ‘Walking sticks with light-hearted patterns are popular because they make a mobility aid into a fashion accessory and talking point. If you have to use a walking stick, one that makes people smile and garners compliments can have a very beneficial effect on the user’s sense of well-being.’

5 minutes with Miss Milly We catch up with owner Sarah Watmore

Q: What have you been doing in Lockdown 3? A: We’ve launched our SS21 jewellery collection and had some orders through as retailers continue to dress and refresh their windows for Valentine’s Day and spring, work within the Click and Collect guidelines and maximise the use of online channels. However, I think the majority are waiting for a more definite idea of when the retail economy will re-open. Q: Any positives you’ll be implementing into your future business model? A: Stock consolidation and cracking down further on overheads have been key processes throughout 2020 and will undoubtedly remain in place. I think the more rigid business practices will naturally remain and we will review other areas, such as trade shows, advertising and other marketing. When we finally get back together at a show, the industry will undoubtedly look different.

Eye Style: Opticaid

Opticaid have just launched their 2021 collection of Remaldi reading glasses and sunglasses in order, hopefully, to coincide with the reopening of retail. ‘This season, reading frames are either oversized, thick and make a statement or they are still large but made from thin lightweight materials,’ says buyer Gillian Marchbank, ‘Round lenses continue to be strong. Summery colours of sorbet yellow, greens, blues and pinks/lilacs all feature as well as bestselling black and tortoiseshell.’ They retail from £14. There are also new 2021 sunglasses, lots of oversized thick fashion frames as well as round shapes. Lens colours feature mirror and colour tints such as lilac and grey.
