The recent view of government is that domestic tourism "just happens" and is of no net-benefit to the country. As such, it doesn’t warrant government intervention and funding. The coronavirus outbreak is proving otherwise. Domestic tourism is an extremely important component of the uK economy and performs the vital task of redistributing wealth out from urban centres. But there is a more important reason for government to now focus resources on domestic tourism. When the uK comes out of lockdown, the most pressing need will be to kick-start the uK economy.
