Dr. Kalata (cont.) Previously, Dr. Kalata served as District Chairman for the Pennsylvania Osteopathic Medical Association where he worked to further the mission of promoting the distinctive philosophy and practice of osteopathic medicine in Pennsylvania for POMA members and for their patients. On May 5, 2023, Dr. Kalata was installed as the new President of the Pennsylvania Osteopathic Medical Association during a POMA Inauguration Ceremony. Recently, the Board of Trustees of the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine formally recognized John J. Kalata, D.O. for his decades of noteworthy attainments, his unremitting dedication to the mission and calling of medicine, to the superlative education of LECOM students, and to the osteopathic profession as a whole, as well as to his support of the Pennsylvania Osteopathic Medical Association. The Board extended its congratulations and appreciation to Dr. Kalata for his years of loyal and dedicated service to LECOM and to LECOM Health honoring him with a formal Proclamation and a donation of $10,000 to Dr. Kalata’s scholarship in honor of his father, John C. Kalata. For his dedication and determined attention to the cause of healing, to the advancement of whole person health, and to the betterment of his fellow man, LECOM takes great satisfaction in its full-throated recognition of Dr. Kalata as an exemplar of its enduring mission.
LECOM Health Groundbreaking Ceremony Heralds Major Expansion of Millcreek Community Hospital A Groundbreaking Ceremony was held on March 23, 2023 at the Millcreek Community Hospital Education Center in Erie, Pennsylvania to announce the latest undertaking in the ever expanding LECOM healthcare nexus. LECOM Health officials shared plans with the public about the latest construction project scheduled by the organization, one that will significantly expand the size and services of Millcreek Community Hospital (MCH). Mary Eckert, Millcreek Community Hospital CEO, along with Dr. Anthony Ferretti, LECOM Health Vice President of Surgical Services and Project Lead, provided details about the project. The officials announced the groundbreaking of a 34,000 square-foot addition to the Millcreek Community Hospital that will create a new emergency department and intensive care unit. The new emergency department will be located on the first floor and it will include eight treatment rooms, two trauma rooms, and six patient rooms dedicated to behavioral health. The second floor intensive care unit (ICU) will consist of six new critical care patient beds, and 14 private medical/surgical patient rooms.
