The furnishings feel collected over time and are eclectically elegant in their mix of both modern and classic lines. “I used comfortable, but not overly large, upholstered pieces; an antique-mirror; glass-top coffee table; a white rug to visually expand the floor space; and a chandelier and long drapes to draw the eye upwards to make the most of the dramatic ceiling height.”

Sarah’s not afraid to get her hands dirty and sees possibilities in others’ castoffs. “I found the corner cabinet on the street. It was stained Pepto Bismol pink and covered with old stickers. I was inspired by Chinoiserie furniture, and painted it dark brown, highlighting the edges with gold paint. I added hidden lighting to the shelves, and now use it as a bar cabinet and display piece that takes up a very small footprint in the room.”
