ENRICHMENT Winter Birds of the Skagit Flats Winter is one of the most spectacular times to bird in the Pacific Northwest. The river flats of the Skagit, Samish and Stilliguamish are awash in swans, snow geese, eagles, hawks and falcons. This area is rich with winter avian visitors seeking shelter and food along the Pacific flyway. Class time will introduce you to the identification of common species of waterfowl and raptors large and small. The field trip will take you to the richest areas of the river flats, where Peregrines hunt, Bald Eagles soar, Trumpeter Swans and Snow Geese fill the air. Travel related expenses will be shared among driver and passengers. Personal Gender and Social Identity Theories

Develop a shared understanding of how gender is shaped by our families, friends, society and the media. Gender dictates how we are named and dressed as youth, but it also has broader implications for economic access, resource allocation, educational socialization and career options later in life. Explore social identity theory as it relates to a person’s concept of self as determined by social groups. We’ll discuss how a person’s identity is shaped by varying social contexts and how we can partake in a more diverse and supportive community. D’Andre Fisher D’Andre serves in the inaugural role of Associate Vice President for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion at North Seattle College. Prior to this position, D’Andre served as the Special Assistant to the Vice President and Director of Operations in the Office of University Community (Diversity and Inclusion Office), at the University of Oklahoma. D’Andre believes that education is a human rights issue—it is transformative, and should be used as a tool for societal change and for the improvement of the quality of life for all citizens. He advances this philosophy in his daily work as well as community service and by maintaining an ally role for the following communities: LGBTQA, DACA, marginalized and underrepresented groups, first-generation students, men of color and women of color in STEM, religious freedom, persons with disabilities and veterans.

Explore eight steps that help connect you to your heart and your being. Beginners and seasoned meditators welcomed! Taught by a certified meditation facilitator with over 45 years experience. Bring a pen and notebook to class for writing exercises and notes. Starting with the third class, you will need a mat or large towel and a pillow for meditations on the floor.
