Lauren McQuistion is a designer, Assistant Professor of Architecture, and PhD Candidate in the Constructed Environment at the University of Virginia School of Architecture. Her work is situated within a multidisciplinary framework or theoretical, historical, and critical discourse of art museums as institutions and spaces that contribute to identity formation and a shared sense of cultural temporality. Her proposed dissertation focuses on an analysis of the spatialized history and ongoing influence of the Whitney Museum of American Art, an institution which has been formative to the institutionalization of American Art and which has not yet been closely studied from the perspective of spatial and aesthetic theory. Lauren coordinates and teaches design studios and courses on the histories and theories of spatial thinking. She has worked professionally in the field of architecture, drawing on her diverse experiences across the country to bring new perspectives to practice and research. She graduated from the University of Virginia School of Architecture with a Bachelor of Science in Architecture and a Minor in Architectural History and the University of California Berkeley with a Masters of Architecture.
