"And by all accounts this year was a big success with three separate groups of youth sailors completing the program on the club's fleet of Sunfish. But there was one problem: The new sailors wanted more! "The August meeting at the club house found us discussing the success of the program and kicking around ideas for a next step for our new sailors when someone suggested inviting them to our Wednesday evening beer can races. The races are very low key and would provide a suitable number of adults to ensure that everyone was safe. The idea was quickly adopted, but we decided that the image of beer cans
wasn't appropriate for the younger set. It was then, in a sudden flash of brilliance, that we renamed the events "soda can races". "For our inaugural soda can race last night, the Fogiel brothers, Elliott, Benjamin, and Stephan, were at the dock before any one else to set up the Sunfish and their newly purchased El Toro.
