Distance Learning: Correspondence Courses Correspondence

Our correspondence service allows individuals the option to pursue training on their own. Students are responsible for scheduling and arranging for a qualified proctor to oversee their examinations.

• Sign applicable agreements acknowledging their intention to comply with the testing procedures and regulation.

How to Apply

• Be someone who has had no part in instructing the course.

• Complete the Correspondence Application form, found at lc-etc.ca in the Distance Training tab.

• Not have any personal or familial relationship with the course instructor or students.

• Ensure the application form is complete. Applications that do not include complete course application information or course fees will not be processed.

• E-mail the application to dlearn@lakelandcollege.ca or fax it to the Office of the Registrar at 780.853.2955. Applicants are responsible for meeting the prerequisites needed and any special requirements outlined in the course description as found in the current course calendar.

Correspondence course fees are $255 unless otherwise indicated.

Course Scheduling

NFPA 1021 Fire Officer

All courses offered by correspondence will begin on the first day of the month. Applications must be received by the 15th of the preceding month or the registration will be deferred to the next possible starting date. Students have eight weeks from the start date to complete their course, including the writing of the final examination.

Students may withdraw from a course until the end of the fifth week of the course by notifying the Office of the Registrar. There are no refunds once materials have been sent to the student.

Extensions and Proctors

Safety Codes Officer in the Fire Discipline (NFPA 1031 & NFPA 1033)

Students may apply for one four-week extension at a cost of $100. A completed Application for Course Extension form must be submitted and paid for prior to the end date of the course.

Correspondence courses involving a written examination require an approved proctor to supervise the examination. See the Client Hosted Handbook at lc-etc.ca in the Distance Training tab for information about the examination and evaluation process.
