Rich’, la dama de los vinos ibicencos

Stella González Tuells es la mayor embajadora de los vinos de Ibiza. En la bodega de Can Rich, de la que es propietaria junto a su marido, además de vinos blancos, rosados y tintos elaboran Aceite de Oliva Virgen Extra, y licores como hierbas ibicencas, café caleta y vermú.

Lleva años trabajando para que, desde las administraciones —que ya lo están haciendo— y desde el sector de la restauración y la hostelería —aquí falta impulso— pongan en valor los productos elaborados en la isla. Para ella, y con toda la razón, las cartas de vinos de los restaurantes y hoteles deberían abrir con los elaborados aquí. Los turistas deben conocer que en la isla hay un extraordinario producto y que éste, junto al patrimonio artístico y cultural, nos diferencian dentro de este mundo globalizado.

Can Rich inició su actividad el año 1997 plantando 17 hectáreas de viñedos con variedades tradicionales y foráneas. En 1999 construyó la bodega, a la que incorporaron nuevas técnicas de elaboración con una base asentada en la tradición. “Fuimos pioneros en la aplicación de la agricultura ecológica como la manera lógica y personal de entender la cultura del vino y el respeto por la naturaleza. Los fenicios introdujeron la viticultura en Ibiza y nosotros queremos rendir homenaje a esos hombres y mujeres que trabajaron nuestras tierras y que tanto aportaron a ella”, señala Stella González.

In the Can Rich winery, which she owns together with her husband, in addition to white, rosé and red wines, they produce extra virgin olive oil, as well as liqueurs such as hierbas ibicencas (aniseed liqueur), Caleta coffee and vermouth.

She has been working for years to get councils – which are already doing so – and the restaurant and hospitality sector –where there is a lack of momentum – to value and showcase the products produced on the island. In her opinion, and quite rightly so, the wine menus of restaurants and hotels should feature local wines at the top of the list. Tourists should discover the island’s extraordinary produce and how it, together with our artistic and cultural heritage, differentiates us within this globalised world.

Can Rich was founded in 1997 with the planting of 17 hectares of vineyards with traditional and foreign varieties. In 1999 they built the winery, introducing new wine-making techniques rooted in tradition. “We pioneered the application of organic farming as the logical and personal way to understand wine culture and respect for nature. The Phoenicians introduced viticulture in Ibiza, and we want to pay tribute to those men and women who worked our lands and who contributed so much to it,” says Stella González.
