Pangolin are the only mammals completely covered in scales! They use the scales to protect themselves and curl themselves into a ball when threatened. Good if you are trying to ward off a lions but not helpful when trying to avoid humans, who can just pick them up! They are in high demand for their meat, which is considered a delicacy, and their scales are used in traditional medicines, in both China and Vietnam. All eight pangolin species are protected under international law but the growing illegal trade is seeing populations decimated.
