itsap Regional Library is pleased to bring you this inaugural issue of Inspire — our new catalog of Library classes and culture for you and your family to enjoy. We hope this quarterly listing of activities and services will encourage you to take full advantage of all that our nine libraries have to offer. We invite you to visit often, either in person or through our website, KRL.org.

During April, Kitsap Regional Library will introduce a new brand to our community that reflects our history and introduces our mission. Your Library has always been about supporting community goals by providing access to information.

We have continually updated the way we provide that access. But our image did not reflect how we Jill Jean Library Director have changed. Story Night is a fun, colorful and entertaining night of true stories told by the area’s best (or at least the most willing) storytellers. Prizes will go to the best storyteller and at least one member of the audience.  The story must be true.  No notes. Just tell it like you were at a campfire and no one was interrupting you.

Digital Library

Connecting you to great reading

You don’t need a library card if you want to come to one of our locations to hang out, use a computer, read a newspaper or take a class. But it helps to have a card if you want to check out an item and enjoy it at home or to download stuff from KRL.org.

Your Library Card You can apply for a card online (www.KRL.org/cards) or at any library location. Be sure to bring an ID or proof of residence.

Your Kitsap Regional Library card gives you access to all nine locations, the bookmobile, and our website. You can return anything you borrow to any of our locations.

Welcome to the Library Online We can’t be open all hours, but our website is.

Your library card number and your password allow you to establish an online account that brings Kitsap Regional Library into your computer or mobile device.

There’s a lot to explore and be inspired by at KRL.org: free music to download, ebooks to enjoy, magazines to peruse. The choices are virtually endless.

Your Card’s Privacy & Responsibilities Your library is open to all. Your account is not.

We will not disclose your account history to anyone or any entity. If you want a spouse or family member to be able to pick up items on your account, you need to tell us in advance.

Not on the Shelf?

We want you to get what you want. So you can place a hold on any item in our collection by making a “hold request” online, by phone or at your library.

What if we don’t have your item in our

collection? No problem. You can request the purchase of an item. Go to www.KRL.org/ requests. Just tell us what you’re looking for.

Many times, we’ll buy a copy just because you asked for it. If we can’t buy one, we’ll try to borrow a copy from another library.

As long as no one else is waiting for your item, you may renew it three more times.

Fines & Fees If you sign up for email or text notification, you will receive a reminder three days before your items are due. If you are late returning an item, we will charge you 25 cents per day per item. Maximum overdue fine is $5 per item.

If your item is more than 10 days late, you will get a notification. If your item is more than 21 days late, the Library will consider it missing and will bill your account.

If you owe more than $25 or a missing item, you won’t be able to borrow anything else.

Come in and discuss it with us, and we’ll work to figure out a solution for you.

If you have special interests or talents, we want to know about it. We are all about having your volunteering experience at Kitsap Regional Library be both fun and purposeful.

Actually, you don’t. You can do all of this from the comfort of your favorite chair! We understand how busy life can be and so we’ve transformed our website into what we like to think of as our Digital Library. Think of it as the library that is available whenever you Jean Charters need it.

Kitsap Regional Library has always been a place to come for information, and leave with inspiration. And now, we are excited to announce that Kitsap Regional Library has undergone a transformation.

We are making some changes to our look and feel and the way we communicate what the Library is all about.

What is Kitsap Regional Library all about? Well, books, of course. But you already knew that. Creating a new look for the library, for us, is about telling our story.

What is it about the Library that you may not know? Let us reintroduce you. Our new brand is about redefining the way you think about your library, giving you just a little bit more to discover.

Up until now our image has served us well; it is representative of our history and a collection of individual communities, proud of their libraries. For a few years now this image has fallen short of communicating how much we have grown, and all that we are. With infinite access points to information and inspiration, the Library has moved far beyond the world of books. We needed something that communicated the unity, value and strength of our people, places and resources. Our new brand gives us a way to tell the whole story. Along with a new look, we are embracing a new, more proactive, mission: Inspiring our community to dream more, learn more, do more and be more.

The Changing Face of Kitsap Regional Library The history of Kitsap Regional Library is one of creativity and persistence. Each of our libraries was imagined, built and cultivated with love by the individual communities that they represent.

From modest beginnings of a 16-by-16-foot Army surplus building in Silverdale (above), to a tiny cafeteria in a schoolhouse in Kingston that served

commitment to serve and the values of the unique and diverse communities that the Library supports. It speaks of a Library that is dedicated to a thriving, literate community, working hard to bridge the digital divide. Our new brand is action.

It tells the tale of place where you can go and think big thoughts or play with

children and community alike, dreams of inspiring and supporting thriving communities have made the Library the heart of the communities it serves.

Little by little, the communities of Kitsap came together, knowing if they worked together each of these libraries could become so much more. Today, Kitsap Regional Library means nine

little ideas. It is community, creativity and innovation.

We are proud to present the new story of Kitsap Regional Library starting April 2. This debut issue of Inspire reflects the Library’s new identity, as do our new Library cards, new staff name tags and new vehicle and building signage that

ur goal at the Kitsap Regional Library Foundation is to create a financial legacy for the Library to be able to support the dreams and aspirations of our community. We are able to offer financial support for some of the most inspirational things the Library does thanks to generous donations from the people who know us best.

Our Summer Learning,* for example, impacted more than 12,000 young

people in our community and has grown every year of its existence. Our One Book, One Community program will have a hard time duplicating the wild success of 2014’s selection, “The Boys in the Boat.” About 400 people packed an event for the author, and even two of the daughters of the “Boys” drew 150 people on a Saturday afternoon.

Thanks to a generous grant from the Paul G. Allen Family Foundation,

at-risk young people’s lives were changed in a dramatic way with our innovative BiblioTEC program. We also provide financial support for books and collections, allowing the Library, for example, to add Early Literacy Kits to its arsenal of resources. When you donate to the Foundation, you are supporting a national award-winning library and making an investment in your community.

Bookmobile Schedule Each Bookmobile run is scheduled for every other week. You can check out items, register to vote, pick up holds and return materials from any of our nine locations. All items except single-disc DVDs check out for four weeks. Single DVDs are due in two weeks. If we have to cancel a Bookmobile run, we will adjust due dates of materials. All attempts will be made to notify a nearby business if the Bookmobile cannot make its regularly scheduled stop.
