As a Shanghainese-American raised in suburban New York, I’ve lived in the tension between daily life and cultural roots—a push and pull that shapes how I see the world. This journey hasn’t been clean or easy, but it’s taught me to embrace the complexity of belonging. I’ve never been drawn to a single lane. Whether composing music, shaping cities, writing essays, practicing martial arts, or collaborating on AI tools, I’ve always followed patterns—searching for deeper connections across disciplines. Some might call it a polymathic instinct; for me, it’s just curiosity in motion. Architecture became my anchor—where all those instincts converge. To me, it isn’t just about solving problems or crafting forms—it’s about uncovering stories. True architecture doesn’t impose—it listens. It reveals meaning through connection: with people, with history, with place. That mirrors my own path of reconnecting with heritage—messy, relational, and deeply human. When design emerges from this kind of discovery, it becomes more than functional or beautiful—it becomes a bridge. A way to connect people to their surroundings and their identities. A celebration of difference. A spark for curiosity. A space where design doesn’t dominate, but invites everyone to belong.
