R. LAUREN SHELTON is a chiropractor and co-owner of Rooted Chiropractic in Clarendon Hills. She alongside her husband established Root and Bloom Chiropractic in 2018 and in five years, through their commitment to focus on the wellbeing and growth of entire families, it’s evolved into what it is named today. Dr. Shelton is a member of the Clarendon Hills Infant Welfare Society and is a co-organizer of a local fundraising walk for Postpartum Support International aimed at offering assistance to women with perinatal mood disorders. What does the idea of power mean to you? As a female chiropractor and small business owner, the idea of power means having the ability to positively influence the health and well-being of my patients and the community. It’s about inspiring families to take control of their health and make informed decisions that feel congruent to them, which ultimately cultivates a profound sense of empowerment for them. Who is your role model and why? My role models are my parents. My dad instilled the value of education and hard work from a young age. My mom’s dedication to our family and selflessness is inspiring. Together, they have taught me the importance of communication and teamwork—something that is incredibly important when you run a business with your spouse. What was a pivotal moment in your career? Becoming a mom was undoubtedly a pivotal point in my career. It deepened my level of understanding and empathy for new families. Motherhood has strengthened my dedication to helping babies, children, and families and fueled my commitment to ongoing learning so that I can make a lasting impact on their health and well-being.
