hat a great start to 2015!

After a comparison of our organization to similar organizations, I’ve come to the conclusion that we’ve got a great thing going on. Our leadership in this organization, unity, and combined knowledge base is astounding.

Why is that, you may ask? We had a leadership workshop on February 19th. We have great mixers, and an extensive list of committees who work diligently to provide a long list of benefits to you as members. My participation with these workshops and committees has taught me valuable lessons that I implement with both CATT and my business.

During our annual meeting in February we received in-depth reports from great committee leaders that make this organization continue to grow! If you’re wondering what the rewards are for these committee leaders, just ask! They are in attendance at our mixers and events along with Directors and Officers of the CATT Board.

Roof Mounted Solar PV Systems in Placer County Must Have Class A Fire Rating

A

s of January 1, 2015, CA State law requires that the installation of roof mounted solar photovoltaic systems (panels, modules, racking, and roof covering) must be listed with a Class A, B, or C fire rating that matches the respective fire rating of the roof covering. All roof mounted solar photovoltaic systems in Placer County must have a Class A rating.

At the time of application contractors will be required to submit a certificate of compliance letter issued by a Nationally Recognized Testing Lab indicating the PV system received a Class A Fire Rating per UL 1703, as revised May 2014 to include the racking in the test.

At the time of final inspection contractors will be required to submit a self-certification (“DECLARATION OF INSTALLATION”) affirming that the solar photovoltaic class “A” fire rated system as noted on the approved plans is what is installed at the project address on the declaration. This Declaration was created to facilitate the inspection process for the contractor due to Inspector difficulty accessing PV panels on roofs.

LGAC Meeting/Speaker Info The next CATT LGAC meeting is Monday, March 16, 4 p.m., here at the CATT office. Guest Speaker is Morgan Goodwin, newly elected member to the Truckee Town Council. Morgan grew up in Lake Placid, NY and comes from a background of competitive skiing, as well as backpacking, ski touring, biking and sailing.

Morgan is a founding member of the informal Donner Dash trail marathon and The Roundhouse maker space. He participated as a leader on the 2014 Embrace sculpture team, Truckee River Day, as well as being a many year member of the Sierra Club at the national level. Morgan currently works as an Online Campaigner for the global civic movement Avaaz, managing technology to connect people to their governments and promote deliberative democracy around the world. At 30 years old, he brings to the town experience in civic advocacy with governments around the country and the world on issues of climate change, digital rights, government representation and more.

The Guest Speaker for the April 20 meeting is Truckee Chief Building Official Johnny Goetz. Any CATT member is welcome to attend LGAC meetings.

Truckee Building & Safety Division News

A

s we begin to ramp up for the upcoming construction season, I wanted to give everyone some relevant updates. First, we will be opening up our doors five days a week beginning April 6, 2015. As of that date, you will be able to schedule inspections again on Mondays.

For the next few months, you will still be able to schedule inspections using the current IVR system; however, the Town will not be renewing its contract with the IVR system as we implement our new Town-wide software. The new software will allow online scheduling through a portal referred to as ePermits. You will be able to create your own profile and user name, apply for permits, and schedule inspections. You will also be able to receive email notifications for plan review status, inspection resulting, etc.

The Town will be holding workshops the week of March 9, 2015 and March 16, 2015 (more details to follow) to assist in setting you up in the system and providing you with the necessary training before we “go live.� The new system will allow all of us to become more efficient over time, as some of you have seen with the application demoes in our test environment. With that said, no change comes without some hiccups, so we need to work together. The Town is committed to providing as seamless of a transition as possible during this time, and we welcome any feedback that you feel is warranted.

orking with the Tahoe Truckee Unified School District (TTUSD) on construction projects is easier than you think and may be of great benefit to your company.

TTUSD has ongoing projects as well as large facility projects upcoming. The District would like to work with local contractors whenever possible to keep the business in the area.
