On behalf of Air Niugini, welcome to the second edition of its Global Destinations magazine. than 600 large and small islands, most of which are fringed with coral reefs and the sub-surface wildlife that they provide a home to.
In this edition, we feature the diverse attractions of Papua New Guinea as well as the many interesting and varied international destinations that Air Niugini flies to. We invite you first to take a peek at our colourful festivals that occur in various parts of the country throughout the year, where displays of brilliant costumes and traditional refineries celebrate the rich and ancient cultural heritage. These include the International Orchid Spectacular, the Milamala Yam Festival (Milne Bay Province), the mysterious Mask Festival and the Warwagira Festival in the East New Britain Province. The famous Goroka Show, the spectacular Mt Hagen Show and the stunning display of the Suli Muli dancers with their iconic black painted faces and distinct headdresses during the Enga Cultural Show are all unique showcases of Papua New Guinea’s rich and diverse heritage. The topography of our country is equally diverse and rugged – from snow-capped Mt Wilhelm and Mt Giluwe along the mountainous spine of the mainland, to the grass valleys and forests of the Highlands down to the coastal river deltas and mangrove swamps. Between these extremes are microenvironments where many weird and wonderful plants, animals, birds and insects are found. Then of course, there are more
As well as showcasing our wonderful country, Air Niugini also offers our customers opportunities to visit Asia, Australia and the Pacific region with the variety of packages available in this magazine. Air Niugini’s focus this year is to expand the airline’s global reach and the continuation of major upgrades to our services. Hand in hand with this focus our priority is also the delivery of exemplary services to our valued travelling public. Providing efficient, affordable and reliable passenger services remains the airline’s “core business” right across the nation, the South Pacific region and beyond. Last year, the airline began its fleet rationalisation in line with its domestic and regional operations and introduced its first Fokker70 jet aircraft. By early 2017 there will be 9 Fokker70 aircrafts. The aircraft provides greater speed, reliability and comfort for our passengers. In the coming months we will be expanding our schedule and capacity with the introduction of a second service to Narita, Japan and increasing frequency to Vanuatu and the Solomon Islands.
