TOURS TOURS
The National Stud is the only Thoroughbred stud in the UK to open its doors to the general public, giving a unique insight into the world of Thoroughbred breeding.
Depending on the season and daily activities on the Stud, visitors can expect to see mares with their young foals in the paddocks, yearlings and stallions, all in the truly beautiful grounds of The National Stud. You will also hear about the history behind the Stud and an overview of the work that goes into producing the future champions of the racetrack from one of our highly knowledgeable guides.

Our resident equine celebrities are firm favourites with all of our visitors, with Grade 1 Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Lord Windermere and three-time Group 1 winning sprinter The Tin Man both enjoying their retirements at the stud.
While you are with us you can visit our on-site coffee shop. It is open all year round and sells delicious cakes, sandwiches and hot food with many seasonal specialities to complement the daily menu.
The National Stud Tour is excellent value for money and a great experience even for someone who knows nothing about horses. Our guide was very welcoming and enthusiastic, as well as being knowledgeable. The tour teaches about how the stud goes about breeding and the intricacies involved - you get to meet some of the horses, but quite understandably are not allowed to touch the stallions. I would highly recommend this tour for anyone interested in horses / horse racing.
Excellent experience!
Our tour guide was extremely informative about the history of the National Stud and showed us around the stud to see the stallions and young foals, even letting us see the foals up close. Ending the tour with a visit to see their two retired racehorses was an extra surprise. Feeding a polo to former Gold Cup Champion Lord Windermere & Platinum Jubilee Stakes winner The Tin Man was just one of the highlights of the few days we spent in Newmarket!
