Temple Shalom’s collection for Israel
By Jeanette Fisher
On Monday, Oct. 23, a call went out to our congregation for desperately needed supplies for the IDF and displaced persons from southern Israel. Asher Saida, Rabbi Ariel Boxman’s husband, left for Israel the next day and delivered them in person. The response from our congregation was incredible. All day long, generous members of our community stopped by with bags full of supplies. Volunteers stayed busy helping to sort, fold and pack. Using vacuum sealing, 19 large duffle bags were packed and driven by volunteers to the Miami Airport.

Asher arrived in Israel and was met by army personnel who helped him transport the supplies to the base. The soldiers were overwhelmed and overjoyed to receive them. They said that not only was it everything that they desperately needed but it was also the largest civilian shipment that they had received. You can watch a video from Logistics Officer Yigal Ben David of the IDF Gaza Region on our website at naplestemple.org/israelresources.html.
Thank you, Asher, for transporting all 19 bags of supplies to Israel and to EL AL for waiving baggage fees and limits. We thank everyone who brought donations on such short notice as well as those who generously donated funds to support this effort and all the volunteers who helped throughout the day with sorting, packing and transporting these much-needed goods to our family in Israel.
