Amanda Harpole and Maddie Lamalie At Sorella Stone, sisters Amanda Harpole and Maddie Lamalie are continuing a family legacy while shaping the future of the stone industry in New Orleans. Founded in 1988, the company entered a new chapter in 2020 when the sisters took ownership and rebranded the business their father had built over the years. “When the opportunity arose to take ownership, it was a chance to honor the legacy of the business while bringing our own leadership and perspective to it,” the sisters say. Though both grew up around the industry, each brings a distinct passion to the work. Amanda is particularly drawn to the design element. “Natural stone is true original art—you can’t replicate it,” she says. “I enjoy placing one-of-a-kind pieces into homes where they become defining features.” Maddie, meanwhile, is fascinated by the history behind the materials. “I’m especially drawn to where the stone came from and how it was originally used. Helping preserve and restore those materials is incredibly rewarding.” Today, their work can be found in homes across the city, alongside projects like ongoing work at The RitzCarlton, restoration efforts near the French Market, and upcoming preservation work at the Merieult House. The sisters prioritize maintaining a safe and forward-thinking workplace. In collaboration with Tulane University’s Department of Environmental Health Sciences, they conducted industrial hygiene assessments in their fabrication shop. This program ensures the facility meets high safety standards for employees. “Our long-tenured team is the real asset of our company,” Amanda and Maddie say, underscoring a legacy built on quality craftsmanship.
