Masterplan and Concept for Tourism Development in Todo Village Revitalize the Tradisional Village as Living Museum and Tourist Destination
1. Background
4. Scope of Design
The Todo Village Development Plan is an improvement in the Quality of Life (QoL) of rural and disadvantaged communities and is an act of preservation of traditional villages that still survive today. One of the actions taken to improve the quality of Todo village community is to make Todo Village as a Tourist Destination. The method used by revitalize traditional buildings or house in order to be empowered as a place to stay overnight so that it attracts international visitors to experience the culture of the Todo people and integrates with the lives of the indiginious people. The traditional house which will be developed as a guesthouse is based on sustainable criteria, such as the use of local materials, the use of local resources, as well as demonstrating the values of beliefs and local widsom of the original village community in the form of a mass space arrangement so that visitors from outside the village can feel the culture of the Todo people intimately.
The masterplan is a need to planning for further development of Traditional Village. This also is accordaing with the results of a meeting with the chairman of Todo village on 14-17 March 2020 which requires the existence of a master plan as a guide for village development. But for this design process, most will focus on developing the Interior Guesthouse and Sanitary Facility. The details of the master plan will be discusse according to the need and further discussion.
2. Designer Perspective The development of Todo Village as a tourist village, does not necessarily only through the development of a traditional physical building as a guesthouse, but by restructuring and zoning of the village spatial plan which is adjusted to the original belief system of the village. Therefore it is necessary to do this arrangement, namely through the planning of village layout Masterplan which is planned as a preservation area and tourist destination. The aim is to be able to maintain the authenticity of the village-built environment and avoid the transformation of the village which eliminates the identity and character of the village of Todo due to the influence of the need for modernization and tourism itself.
5. Method of Design The most famous patterns of events that observed and monitored in the vernacular communities, according to, Christopher Alexander’s classification.[3] Level
Patterns of events in the monitored vernacular community
1- Community
1.1 Fabric: Topography of land, boundaries, agriculture lands, future extensions, etc. 1.2 Planning: Common lands, activity nodes, sacred spots, grave lands, holy grounds, acces to the water, etc. 1.3 Themes: Family gathering spots, shops, etc
2- Buildings
2.2 Spaces: Animal spaces, storage spaces, garden spaces, entrance ransition, sacred spaces, workshop spaces, guest spaces, sanitary spaces, etc. 2.3 Features: Main entrance features, lighting, airflow, bulding edge, built-in seat, etc
3. Designer Concept and Method The Folk culture may be recognized through the understanding of the collective experience of the society. It can be seen in the interrelations between man, nature, place, time, myths and legends. Therefore, such efforts of conservation might stress indepthstudy of the context not only with its physical but also with non-physical aspects that reflects the cultural values, and identity. To achieve a successful conservation process in our historic and vernacular built environment, cultural values should be understood on a wider basis. [1]
“Living museum” is a theory and method in the protection and renewal of historical districts. “Living museum” emphasizes three characteristics, which include: the authenticity protection of spatial element in the traditional architecture culture, identity and inheritance of traditional architecture culture, community participation and interaction with visitors. The essence of “Living museum” is community renewal. Following the principle of people-oriented, the theory pays attention to retain the traditional culture of architecture development trends and will make the traditional architectural protection a constantly updated and developing process. [2] The concept proposal is combining the Traditional functions in a museum such as curatorial, education, exhibition, and archival, into local community participation. By re-contextualizing the functions, the method opens up unique opportunities for re-defining the role, purpose, and meaning of a museum in an aging community. Adding some new function to the traditional village is also an option to facilitate the interaction between the foreigner to the local perspective. By making the interaction it would create intimacy to understand collective experience of the society. Some functions that we propose as supporting feature for the village development such as living museum such as: guest house and sanitary facility, exhibition, catering, leisure and workshop spaces. For the first step of guest house development, one of Todo traditional house will be used for the guest house as for a total experience in the traditional village. The concept for developing this guest house is utilizing local potential to create a place to stay that fits international standard. By doing this, local people can involved in the process also gives them a sense of belonging of this guest house. On the other side, the village can make more profit from giving the guest better and more exclusive place to stay without losing the local meaning on it. The other facilities that need to be created is a supporting facilities for the guest house such as a proper sanitary facility, spaces for entertainment, and also spaces for education. The main issue of this village is lack of proper sanitary facilities due to late infrastructure development. Therefore, some public toilet will be added to the masterplan as a proposal for the villagers to create it, still with the same concept as the guest house development is. PROJECT

Goals and Conclusion In other words, the design tries to emphasis on environmental protection and art culture. Besides that we want to design for more sustainable of tourist development that could bring mutual benefit for both stakes. Living museum is our goals to revitalize the historcal community and by community participation and interaction with visitors, we want to achieve a successful conservation process Todo Village. Such patterns help in discovering and codifying the existing patterns of events using a clear methodology for conservation in such communities that could help in: 1) Conserving the cultural identity a`nd the features of distinguished urban patterns. 2) Enforcing the design process through exploring the language of those patterns. 3) Providing a guideline for development or for future expansions. 4) Generalizing patterns’ language to societies that share the same cultural dimensions.
