o many products are on the market today; Many are labeled “light activated,” “LED friendly,” “works with all light hues,” or “safe for hybrid.” These products can look completely different from one another: dark versus clear, heavily scented versus fragrance free, natural versus highly cosmetic, matte versus shimmer, with added tingle, bronzers, or skincare actives.

As more sun spas add red, near infrared, and blue light services, or include red light in hybrid tanning equipment, the line between “tanning lotion” and “light care” has become blurry. Different services require different product categories because the goal is different, and the way light interacts with the skin is different.
