Kathy Williamson It is a real pleasure to serve as director for our beautiful community. As a first year member, my goals parallel those requirements of a board member as stated in our handouts to: exercise sound business judgment; respect confidential deliberation and decisions; avoid conflict of community and personal interest, to execute responsibilities in good faith and uphold the oath of the HOA officers and directors. Additionally, I will continue my on-going education on policies and regulations so I may serve to the best of my ability. I appreciate this opportunity and look forward to working with Del Tura owners. Lisa Bellanca – I am looking forward to the opportunity to work on the H.O.A. board for the residents of Del Tura. My husband Frank and I, along with our two senior pups, moved to Del Tura

from the NW Suburbs of Chicago in June of 2018. By trade I have experience working with people; I am a restaurant and tavern owner. We have run our family owned and operated business in Palatine, IL since 1975. My goal is to work cohesively with the new and existing board members on issues that will ensure that our community continues to be a highly rated and desirable place to live. Meg Valentino – My name is Meg Valentino. My husband, Joe, and I moved to Del Tura about six months ago. Because of a feeling of community and the warm friendships I quickly made I wanted to become an active participant by volunteering for the board. After spending ten years in the Navy I began working in the information technology area where I have worked for the last thirty years. Over the past several years I have volunteered for Wake-Up America and held positions on a previous community’s theater board as both Assistant Treasurer and Co-Secretary.

I hope to use my experience to continue improvement of the website, take advantage of latest technology to work towards the improvement of communication to all HOA members and in ensuring security of member and HOA data. I hope to also help keep our wonderful community a place where we always welcome volunteer participation and the exchange of ideas. I look forward to meeting more of the community during my time on the board. Tracey Messina – My background is truly diverse. I have been a correction officer, administrative assistant, bookkeeper, and a restaurant manager. I think some of these skills will serve me well as part of the H.O.A. I have also served as secretary and vice president for the VFW Auxiliary. As part of that organization, I planned dinners, sales, picnics, and parties. As a member of our community, I want to contribute my knowledge to make our community social, active, and vital.

TOWER DEADLINE: The 9th of the month, for the following month’s issue. All articles and flyers must be submitted in a Microsoft Word document format, or you may drop off at the HOA office in a TYPED or HAND PRINTED format only. Questions - please contact us via e-mail: Toweredit@yahoo.com or drop them at the office. Thank You

PRESIDENT’S KORNER By Liz Poniatowski Hello everyone! On September 30th we swore in four newly appointed members to the board and we also filled officer vacancies. Your four new board members are Lisa Bellanca, Tracy Morgan, Kathy Williamson and Meg Valentino. The newly elected Officers are Liz Poniatowski as President, Meg Valentino as Vice President and Tracy Morgan as Secretary. With these vacancies being filled we now have a full HOA Board of Directors! We are very excited to get down to business and to be able to work towards making Del Tura fun once again. COVID has put a halt to a lot of our activities and we are trying to get back in the swing of things to enable us to socialize once again. Last month the Welcome Committee hosted a get together, we had our first birthday cupcake celebration and we celebrated Halloween with our annual golf cart parade. That was just the beginning of us getting back to normal. This month the Del Tura ‘artists’ will sell their goods at our craft fair that will be held in the overflow parking area on Saturday, 7th November beginning at 10am. Then we’re all looking forward to a fabulous laser light show on Saturday, 14 November to support

men’s prostate cancer month…we’ll donate our money and get a wonderful show in return! Take a look through this issue of the Tower and check out all the fliers! There is so much going on in Del Tura and we couldn’t do it without all our volunteers. Yes, we still must adhere to the social distancing and mask wearing but that is what is keeping this community safe. Once Hometown America opens the clubhouse we can once again start playing our card games, mahjong, board games, and having our monthly HOA meetings. It’s not easy being separated from all of you but we, your board of directors, are doing the best we can to continue to support our members in everything we do. The Board wishes all of you a very Happy Thanksgiving. Please stay safe. Wear your mask, wash your hands, and practice social distancing so we can all meet again and enjoy each other’s company. Make sure you completed the email form so you continue to get the most up to date, accurate information on all HOA happenings in Del Tura, join or renew your HOA membership, it’s only $12 a year! And check out the website to see what’s happening! Deltura-HOA. com. Until next month… Stay well and stay happy!

THERE’S A NEW SUGGESTION BOX ON LINE! You can now send your suggestions to your HOA office at the following email address: DTHOASuggestionBox@gmail.com. With the current pandemic situation and everyone not readily having access to suggestion boxes in the Starlight Ballroom and the HOA Office the HOA Board created the new email address to make it easy for you to send your suggestions to us! Each Suggestion MUST have your NAME, STREET ADDRESS and PHONE NUMBER on it along

with your suggestion that you would like the HOA Board to address with Hometown America. Along with the suggestion you should write a brief solution to help us address your concerns more quickly. You will be notified upon receipt, when your suggestion is brought before the BOD, and what actions will be taken with it. Please let us know what your concerns are so we can make Del Tura our continuing Paradise!

Your HOA Board of Directors

WELCOME COMMITTEE MEET & GREET SOCIAL! By Audrey Martin Wear your mask ---stay healthy---and we will meet again on December 7th ---same time ---same place ---and they still stayed to mingle and chat! What a wonderful couple of hours we had to “meet and greet” our new residents and to see so many people in the ballroom. Hopefully, we will be able to attend our parties and dances again soon. As the new residents introduced themselves it was interesting to hear from where they moved. New York, Indiana, Kansas, Ft. Myers, Maine,

Illinois, and New Jersey were the winners with the most attendees. So glad they all found us! The greetings from our GM Fred Taylor and co-chairs Gail Hodge and Kathy Williamson made all 46 guests feel welcome! The frosting on the cake was the great music provided by Dave Adams and Jim Stenzel along with the snacks and table atmosphere making us look forward to our next gathering of new residents of the year 2020. The enthusiasm and excitement of our guests made us happy they are our new neighbors! Welcome!

A few days ago, a short video of our beloved “Lincoln Park” was sent to us. There it stood, abandoned, desolate, totally dilapidated…a broken eyesore. Instantly pulling at my heartstrings and putting me into a temporary melancholy mood. As I allowed myself to continue through it, the sadness was replaced by wonderful, happy memories. I don’t know whether this quote applies but all I could think of were the words “out of the ashes…” Suddenly, from some source within me, the eeriness and gloom of the video was replaced with beautiful sunshine, excitement and happiness surrounded every inch of the Midway. Families once again were spending precious time together. I’m betting that each of us have those special family memories, too! Do you remember a special amusement park of your youth and the excitement that overcame you as you entered the gate? From the moment that you stepped onto the Midway it seemed that all your senses were instantly put into motion. The sounds of excitable voices surrounding you, the laughter of the children as they ran pass you to get more tickets for their next ride. In the distance, the screaming of the voices coming from the giant roller coaster as they anticipated that first long drop! How about those delicious smells coming from the Pavilion: clam cakes, French fries, popcorn, cotton candy, candied apples…just to name a few! Oh, so good! The Pavilion had long rows of picnic tables to sit and relax on, and a large stage to enjoy the day’s special performances. Everything from magic shows to big bands, a show for all ages to enjoy!

By Dianne J. Roderick After lunch we were once again ready to bolt like lightning, but that’s hard to do when your hand is locked into Mom’s, Dad’s, or one of your siblings. No one wanted to take the chance of having to be put into time out. We had been given “the talk” and promised not to stray. It was hard to be still when all that you could think of was going on those rides. Seemed like forever! We had our favorites: The Comet Roller Coaster, the Merry-Go-Round, Ferris wheel, Dodge ‘m Cars, and the Scrambler were the ones we definitely couldn’t miss. Let’s not forget about the House of Mirrors and the Penny Arcade, where we bowled so hard to win tickets for all those treasures. You remember those, don’t you? The Arcade was usually our last stop before heading home but not before Mom had her fortune told. I can remember her placing the coin into the slot and suddenly Madame Zeta’s hands moved carefully over the cards, very slowly, finally pushing out Mom’s very own fortune along with her lucky numbers for the week. She would get such a kick out of that machine! Somehow “amusement” doesn’t fully describe the whole experience one feels when we think back to our younger days and our overwhelming joy when our parents planned those special outings. As with each generation before us that same joy that I felt as a child was later to be seen in our children’s eyes. I’m sure our parents were revisiting and remembering their special childhood outings, as did our grandparents before them. The amusement parks back then were considered our “Disney” and those precious times shared with family will always take precedent over the sadness that comes with change.

CREATIVE WRITERS WORKSHOP By Nancy Davy Intro: I’d like to happily report that we have kicked off our 2020-2021 season of the Creative Writer’s Workshop, in an innovative and roll-with-the pandemic kind of way. We are trying to meet outside for the time being at a location that works for golf cart gathering. We will likely continue in this fashion until it is deemed safe to resume our normal lifestyle. I hope to have new material to provide you with next month. For this month’s Tower, I went back through our submissions from 2019 - early 2020 and selected one that is timely from Jan Walimire. I hope you will enjoy.

It is good to remember, especially now, that channeling our creative talents can be inspiring and therapeutic. Please email me and let me know if you are interested in joining our group. My email address is ndavy01@gmail.com. If you will be new to our group, please provide me with your name, your email address, and your cell phone number. I will reach out to you before we meet in November (11/5 and 11/19) with location updates. As we wait for our lifestyle to be restored, I know I speak for all of our group in extending our best wishes to all for your safety and good health.

Do you know that for $12 per household you receive? - 10 issues of the Del Tura Tower magazine to keep you up to date on all the happenings in Del Tura. - Early purchase of tickets to all HOA sponsored events. - Reduced ticket prices to entertainment offerings. - With the new website now operational only paid HOA members will have access to the Tower online, you will also have access to HOA agendas and minutes to meetings and to the HOA directory. The “free” Tower on the website will no longer be available to non-HOA members. Don’t miss out on the best value around. My goal is to have 100% membership this year - help me in getting all of Del Tura to be a part of our HOA community. Thanks, and hope to see you soon! Sherry Cottini – Membership Chairwoman

By Michael Johnson My Name is Michael Johnson I have lived in Del Tura for 8 years with my wife Margaret and our rescued ferrell cat Peaches...along with our macaw, Fabio...(a story for another issue), which we’ve had for thirty years. Currently, I work at the front gate during overnights on Friday and Saturday. I’m thinking there may be some interest in Adventures and Incidents which have happened to me while working. I promise NOT to embarrass anyone..... My first story I will call, The Adventures of Double Lucky. One evening, during the month of June of this year, actually it was early in the morning, I would guess around 2:30 AM. (While working I make a habit of leaving the gate house and walking around the front of the gate house just to keep my circulation good and as a wake-up stroll.) Well, during one of my early morning exercise walks I noticed something on the ground by my golf cart. At first, I thought it was a scorpion. It certainly looked like one. As I approached the object, I realized it was a crawfish. Now, I had no idea what a crawfish was doing at 2:30 AM in front of the gate house. I immediately went in the gate house, found a paper cup, and scooped the crawfish into the paper cup. The crawfish was approximately the length of my index finger. He (or she) appeared to be in good condition. I do have 3 aquariums at home, and I thought that this little crawfish would be a wonderful addition to one of my aquariums. So, when I got home at 6AM, I immediately took the crawfish

and put it in my large aquarium. He settled down to the bottom and appeared to be quite comfortable in his new surroundings. I went to bed and awakened at approximately 11:00 AM. I immediately went in to look in the large aquarium and see if the crayfish was still alive and well. It was. I called my wife who is up visiting family in Rhode Island and told her of my find. I told her I decided to call the crayfish Lucky. Lucky is exactly what this crayfish was. That afternoon I went to feed the fish and to check on Lucky and did not find Lucky in the aquarium. I looked behind the aquarium; I looked under furniture in the television room, which is where the aquarium was located. I immediately remembered we have a cat, Peaches. I wanted to find Lucky before Peaches did. Well, I found Lucky in the middle of the living room. Lucky was alive and well, although there were quite a few dust bunnies attached to his legs and claws. I immediately put Lucky back in the aquarium, called my wife and said the name of our Crawfish is now Double Lucky, explaining the needed name change. Today, some 3 or 4 months later, Double Lucky is alive and well and has decided to remain in the aquarium. He appears to enjoy the company of the fish and snails in his home... I did some research on crayfish and learned they can survive out of water for weeks in a humid environment. Look for another story from your Gate Gabber next issue.

FROM THE DESK OF THE TREASURER! By Gail Hodge Many of you know that four new BOD members have been appointed to the open positions on the BOD. They have all taken a part in helping to make this BOD a success. I would especially at this time want to thank Lisa Bellanca for offering to be the Assistant to the Treasurer. It’s important to have a backup for the treasurer position, not only for check writing but someone who is familiar with the HOA accounts. Lisa has knowledge with QuickBooks, the software used

by the HOA for accounts and is a business owner. She is very qualified for this position. I look forward to working with Lisa and what she has to offer as a BOD member. The BOD has had as past practice a financial committee. I would like to again have a financial committee in place. If you are an HOA member and have a financial background and would like to be considered for this committee, please call or email me. I can be reached at 585-315-1628 or treasurer@ delturanews.com.

Entertainment ticket refunds are still available for the Merchant-Silver show that was cancelled this season. If you still have tickets, you can obtain a refund. To request your refund, write your name on the back of the tickets and if you would be so kind, include a stamped self-addressed envelope. You may either mail your request or put it through the mail slot at the HOA office or bring it to the HOA on Tuesday morning between 9-12.

Flea & Tick Season Continues in Florida Here in Florida, our flea &tick season doesn’t end. There are many products out to repel or prevent fleas & ticks on our pets. Some products treat only fleas, others treat fleas & ticks and yet others include fleas, ticks and heartworms. Some products are specifically for dogs only. Cat products such as Revolution Plus, a monthly topical, also kills ear mites, hook worms, heartworms, and round worms. I personally used Revolution for awhile and then found out the fleas liked it!!! I have tried Bravecto, another topical that is given every 2 months.Bravecto for dogs kills fleas in 2 – 12 hours. Let’s stay flea free! Another Note: Please if you happen to meet several of our “friendly ferals” around the community, please limit feeding them treats to just a couple pieces. Their regular feeders have noticed they have become accustomed to waiting for you to drive by and drop them some treats. Thank you for caring about them and treating them, but it’s not healthy for them to have a whole bag of treats. They’ll still be waiting for you even for just a few treats.

WHY IS GARDENING GOOD FOR SENIORS? By Rosemary Eiden Physically – gardening is an excellent low impact exercise that improves flexibility through stretching and bending. It promotes strengthening and endurance as well. Mentally – the fresh air and sunshine that you get from just being outdoors is very helpful to reducing stress and anxiety. But in addition to just being outside, gardening provides a project that provides purpose which plays a significant role in improving one’s level of happiness and life satisfaction. Gardening can help to improve not only physical but mental functioning as well – In a wonderful article in Psychology Today, author Sarah Rayner lists 10 benefits gardening provides for mental health: 1. Looking after plants gives us a sense of responsibility. 2. Gardening allows us to be nurturers. 3. Gardening keeps us connected to other living things.

4. Gardening helps us relax and let go. 5. Working in nature releases happy hormones. 6. Being amongst plants and flowers reminds us to live in the present moment. 7. Gardening reminds us of the cycle of life, and thus come to terms with that most universal of anxieties: death. 8. Some aspects of gardening allow us to vent anger and aggression… 9. …whilst others allow us to feel in control. 10. Last but not least, gardening is easy. Is gardening good exercise? Of course, gardening can be wonderful exercise but the amount of exercise anyone would get depends on how much they are able to do to begin with. But what gardening does mostly for seniors is that it… • Gets them moving!

Del Tura Garden Club meetings have resumed!

• It’s functional exercise in that a task is being performed (you’re not just running on a treadmill here!) • It improves balance, sensory perception and flexibility. • The extra physical movements promote the release of endorphins and helps to strengthen muscles (including the heart).

Even if your are in a wheelchair, gardening can be performed with container gardens, raised beds and even indoors. Even from a wheelchair or seated position, the amount of exercise you are getting is much more than sitting in front of the television set. Protect Your Family from Long-term Care Costs

Like everyone, you want to remain physically and financially independent throughout your life. But if you lose some of this freedom, the last thing you’d want is to become a burden on your family. How can you keep this from happening? First of all, you need to be aware of the risk. Someone turning 65 today has almost a 70 percent chance of eventually needing some type of long-term care, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Of course, this doesn’t necessarily mean that you face that 70 percent likelihood. In reality, you have either a zero percent chance of requiring long-term care (you’ll never need it) or a 100 percent chance (you’ll definitely need it). Nonetheless, if you think you’ve got that zero percent chance, you’re taking a gamble – and it could be a big one, because long-term care is expensive. The median annual cost for a private room in a nursing home is over $102,000, according to Genworth, an insurance company. Other long-term care services, such as those provided by a home health care aide, also don’t come cheaply. Furthermore, you can’t count on Medicare paying all these costs – in fact, it would probably only cover a small portion of a nursing home stay and provide limited assistance for home health care. So, if you were financially unprepared for the expense of long-term care, the burden might fall on your loved ones. This could be a big financial challenge, in two ways. First, if a family member had to become your caregiver, this individual might have to abandon a career, or at least substantially reduce their working hours. Not only would this result in a loss of income, but it could also lower the amounts that could be contributed to a 401(k) or similar employer-sponsored retirement plan. Second, if your family members couldn’t leave their jobs or cut back on their hours, or they were simply unable to provide the type of long-term care you need, they might be forced to pay for a nursing home stay or home health care worker out of pocket. To avoid these outcomes, you have a couple of options: • Self-insure – You could conceivably “self-insure” against the costs of long-term care by devoting a portion of your investment portfolio specifically to this purpose. However, if at some point you require admission to a nursing home, it may require a significant commitment of your resources. • Purchase protection – Over the past decade or so, there’s been an increase in the types of long-term care protection vehicles available. These instruments vary widely in cost and in what they cover, but by choosing a protection option, you may greatly lower the financial risk you might face. By consulting with a financial professional, you should be able to find an arrangement that’s appropriate for your situation. Preserving your financial independence and helping protect that of your family should be a key financial goal. And you can make progress toward accomplishing this by recognizing the potential cost of long-term care and taking steps to deal with it.

IT’S THAT WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR By Jan Walimire It all begins with Thanksgiving. Inviting the guests. Buying the turkey and all the trimmings. Setting the table with those treasured holiday pieces. Preparing the “feast”. And sitting down with precious family members to a meal filled with love and…. memories of holidays past. I just can’t even begin this holiday season without remembering so many others. What first comes to mind is going to Grandma’s house. All through my growing-up years that was always the plan. My mother had four sisters and

they were all great cooks! Yummmm… corn, homemade noodles, yeast rolls, mashed potatoes and pies! Now, that was a feast! There were several of us, about twenty-six, give or take a few here and there, gathered around several tables, scattered throughout the kitchen, dining room, and living rooms. And always in the middle of all of it was my Grandpa. He was so full of mischief! All of us grandkids gathered around him as if he was the “pied piper”. We couldn’t wait to see what crazy scheme he had planned that year! Of course, we all remember “Injun

Joe” - Grandpa’s version of the scary guy who lived in the basement. He’d turn the lights off while we were down there and then proceeded to scare us half to death! What fun we had during those family gathering times! And when I see my cousins today, we talk about those memories as if they had just happened! Even today, I cannot go into the dark basement without thinking of “Injun Joe”! Grandma was a beautiful piano player. She would play and we would sing every single Christmas carol known to man. I’m sure it didn’t sound like much to passersby, but to us, we

made the most beautiful music ever! The grandkids would be squeezed up and down the stairs with everyone else grabbing a seat anywhere they could find…in chairs, sofas, on the floor, or on someone else’s lap. Precious, sweet memories. As we begin the holiday season this year, I’m praying that my grandkids will hide treasured memories in their hearts for the years to come. May they look back on these days with Gram and Papa with smiles and laughter and hearts full of joy! May they remember precious family times with those who loved them unconditionally.

BE SURE TO FULLY CHARGE YOUR CART BATTERIES BEFORE THE PARADE !!!

(Rain Date Monday 7th)

It’s time once again to decorate your golf carts for one of Del Tura’s most fun Holiday traditions. It is amazing to see how creative our residents can be. Last year there were more than 25 carts in the parade and so many people cheering us on from all around the community…It was great to see all the support! This year will be even better; we have a great committee with more people involved that ever before! So get those creative juices flowing and start thinking about ideas for your cart. It’s a great way to meet your neighbors and have fun at the same time! We will have PRIZE MONEY for best decorations that night! Start planning early and make sure your batteries are fully charged! The parade will begin at 6:00 pm. Of course we also welcome bicycles, motorcycles, etc., whatever glows…goes! Be sure to come early to see other carts, take pictures and have time to line up at 5:30 and award prizes. If you need help with hooking up lights, you may call Jim Stenzel 239-826-0524 or Gerry Benjamins 239-322-9866. It is up to you to get the things you need and to do the decorating…that’s 98% of the fun! Don’t wait until the last minute for their help. A map and approximate times the parade will reach your location is printed in this Tower and will be posted at all the pools. Please note…the parade will end at the corner of Las Palmas Norte and San Gabriel again this year. It’s a long parade and we lose some of the carts by then. All we need now is to have you join in and have fun! For more information or ideas, call Dusty Laurie at 239-357-4378 or Linda Storma at 239-997-9066. Thanks again for your support. Hope to see you then!

SPORTS & EXERCISE TENNIS AT DEL TURA By Jacqueline St-Jean President, Del Tura Tennis Association We have a very dedicated group of players who attend Open Tennis on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 8:00 am to 10:00 am. They range from beginner to advance. All are welcome. You don’t need to find a partner, just show up during these times and you will automatically be included in the group. No spectators will be allowed around the courts though. You will find a Weekly schedule posted in the screened room by the North pool. It is posted on Saturdays for the coming week. Anyone can reserve a court on the schedule 2 days ahead of the planned activity where space is available. Afternoons are often free, and we encourage you

to take advantage of our beautiful courts. The Del Tura Tennis Association intra-mural leagues have started and are well underway. We have 4 leagues going at the moment: Men’s A, Men’s B1, Women’s and a CoEd group. Our travelling teams that normally play with the Lee County Women’s Tennis League and the SWIFT teams are on hold at the moment as Del Tura is not allowing outside players into the Country Club yet. We hope that in time this will change, and we will be able to resume play with our friends in Lee County. In the meantime, keep safe and healthy. If you have any questions, please contact Jacqueline St-Jean at jacstjean2016@gmail. com or the Del Tura Tennis Association at DelTuraTennis@gmail.com.

FRIDAY SHUFFLEBOARD IS A GO! As many of you know, Jack Blevons has run this ever so successful program for years and has decided to retire and enjoy his free time. I have decided to take the program over but please don’t expect it to be as good as Jack

ran it. My goal for this year is to have a league that can just have fun and still stay healthy. My thought is to start sometime in mid-November so if you are interested in joining and haven’t already let me know, email me ASAP at: glenn1947@yahoo.com.

DEL TURA SOFTBALL UPDATE By Art Keen Things are looking good! As of the writing of this article, we are one week away from our first tryout/practice of the season. Consequently, I don’t have a lot to report to you all. In my last article I mentioned that we are looking for Del Tura athletes to come out for the Amigos and the Diablos softball teams and even though we have started the practices there is still time to join, in fact, our league allows us to add people to the roster throughout the season so if you are not back in town yet, or know somebody who is interested in coming out but will not be back for a while (I am referring to our seasonal neighbors) don’t fret. We are looking to fill 30 or more roster spots in the coming months.

To be eligible to compete in the league, team members must reach fifty (50) years of age in the calendar year of league play (2021), complete an eligibility form and reside or rent in the community for a minimum of three months (90 days) during the League’s scheduled playing dates. Our games are played on Monday and Wednesday evenings at 5:30pm during the months of January, February and March at Carmalita Fields in Punta Gorda. I can assure you that your health and safety will be of primary concern. Hope to see you on the field or in the stands when Del Tura Softball resumes this winter! Art Keen (210) 279-2093 Jim Hamilton (208) 313-1321

BOWLING IS ON FOR OCTOBER By Glenn Tointon The Del Tura Bowling league is scheduled to start the last Tuesday in October. If you are interested in joining our league either as a team member or a substitute, please email me at glenn1947@yahoo.com and we will get you on our list. We only have availability for eight four person teams. Our thought is if we have

more players then we have room for then we will have a lottery to choose the teams. All teams are chosen by the committee based on averages. Spouses or partners are not placed on the same team. Teams will be organized on or before October 20. Please let me know ASAP if you want to participate.

TOURNAMENTS The league’s yearly tournaments and the dates to be played are listed below. We need volunteers to plan the Member Guest tournament, and please keep in mind that the tournament format may need to be altered depending on a number of factors, for example, how many participants can play and be in attendance at a group luncheon. 2020 • Club Championship (December 9, 10, and 16) 2021 • Member Member (January 27-28) • Member Guest (March 4) • President’s Cup (March 17, 18, 24 and 25) We will also have another annual Shootout, managed by Paula Lafreniere, and it is currently scheduled for spring 2021. There will be one qualifying round played in each month leading up to the tournament and the first qualifying round of golf was played in October. So, everyone has multiple chances to qualify and as always, the entire league will be invited to the after-Shootout luncheon (details to be provided at a later date).

ELECTION OF OFFICERS The Nominating Committee for this year’s election is: • Maria Soper, Chairperson • Gail Flynn • Kathy Montemaggi There are four elected offices – President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. Nominations will run through December 1st and we expect the official election and results to be announced at a general meeting currently scheduled for December 17th. Sandy Vassallo and Margie Blackwell will run for the same offices they hold now, President and Vice President. However, everyone is encouraged to consider running for these offices. Bertie Dugo and Sherry Leverre will not run for their offices, Secretary and Treasurer, for another term. They have both been in these positions for a few years and we can’t thank them enough for all their hard work! Everyone is encouraged to get involved in the league and think about ways in which you can contribute. Please consider running for office, volunteering to assist in a tournament – new ideas and new faces are always welcome. DUES Annual membership dues will stay at $35 and need to be paid by December 31st. Only checks will be accepted, and they should be made payable to DTWGA and dropped off in the Pro Shop. Hit ‘em straight!

If Dogs Could Talk Most pet owners are concerned with their pets diets. Below are some good and bad eats for your dog. SAFE GREEN FOODS FOR YOUR DOG: PEAS: Make a good filler in the bowl with kibble to help cut calories. Snap peas still in the shell make a nice snack. SPINASH: Leafy fresh spinach is also a good fill in the kibble. GREEN BEANS: Green beans are inexpensive and a healthy snack or filler also. Do not use canned beans, only fresh or frozen. BRUSSEL SPROUTS: Limit the number you give them to one or two a day. CUCUMBER: Cucumber slices may be a little messy because of the juice but they are

great treat for your dog. Chilled on a hot day is refreshing. HARMFUL GREEN FOOD FOR YOUR DOG: AVOCADOS: There is a chemical in avocados called persin which is toxic to dogs. GRAPES: Grapes have been known to cause kidney damage in dogs. GREEN TOMATOES AND ASSOCIATED GREEN PLANTS: A ripe tomato poses no threat to a dog. However, the stems, leaves and plant are toxic to dogs. They cause tomato poisoning in dogs. See you Monday! Does your dog have a story you would like to share? Please send me picture and story. If you know you will need a ride to a doctor’s appointment please give us 24 hours to find a ride for you or call us even if your appointment is far in the future so we can get the ride on our books. Since Publix and all the drugstores offer a flu shot, FISH has decided not to have it this year. Please visit a drug store or Publix (they even give you $10.00 when getting a shot). FISH is here to assist you! Feel free to contact our FISH president, Ginnie Benjamins (ginnie1131@comcast.net), if you have any questions. Thank you for being a FISH Volunteer!

The Challenge is going to happen! Bring your decorated wreath to the iron fence near the Del Tura entrance on November 16, between 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. We will hang the wreaths on the south side of the fence. You may view the wreaths on the south side of the fence until 5:00 p.m. on November 25th. After voting closes we will move the wreaths to the north side of the iron fence. The winning wreaths will move to the stucco wall near the entrance. Voting will be done by buying your votes. Santa’s mailbox will be located at 5105 Avenida Del Tura. Envelopes and pencils will be provided - place the name of the state you are voting for on the envelope and deposit in the mailbox. The accounting firm of Barilla Henrichs and Larson will count the votes. Voting will be $1.00 = 1 vote, $5.00 = 6 votes, $10.00 = 13 votes, $20.00 = 28 votes. There will be winners for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. A new category will be introduced this season Special Recognition Wreath. If you want to contribute to the entrance lighting fund you may deposit money in the mailbox and write contribution on the envelope. If you have questions, please call Leon Buss at 612-718-9572 or 612-718-7878. DEL TURA MOTORCYCLE CLUB By Alice Kelly

An Invitation for you and a plus one to

Join us for a celebration of your November birthday! When: Wednesday, November 18,2020 Where: Starlight Ballroom Time: 1-3 PM Cupcakes & Coffee & Tea will be served Mask Required

We, Alice and Bill Kelly, were not sure if we were going to be allowed to have our motorcycles in Del Tura. We asked my mother, Nora Kelly, one of the earliest residents in Del Tura to find out for us. She spoke to the manager and he said it would be OK. So, we bought our house in 2001 and became permanent residents in 2003. Before moving to DT, we were living in a very rural part of San Diego county. We enjoyed riding our “bikes” in the mountains and deserts. We definitely wanted to bring our bikes to Del Tura so that we could explore Florida on our bikes. We bought an enclosed trailer and hauled our two 750cc Virago Yamaha motorcycles 2,800 miles to Del Tura. We finally arrived on the morning

of July 11,2003 and parked our pickup truck and trailer out in front of our house. Within five minutes a Del Tura security guard told us we were committing a Federal Offense. I was dumbfounded until he explained the Federal Offense was that we were blocking USPS mailboxes. We immediately moved the trailer and dismounted our motorcycles. That was the only negative comment in the seventeen years about our bikes. We were the first motorcycles in the Fourth of July parade and we, including my mother won first prize in the HOA Halloween party. We wore our motorcycle garb and were the Kelly Angels. We have been warmly welcomed by neighbors and Hometown mgt. We look forward to riding with the many “Bikers” in Del Tura.
