Cork Music Station - Exploring the Wonderful Internet Radio Experience
Radio is such an important part of our daily lives.
With the creation and increasing availability of Internet Radio it is now possible to access several hundred Radio Stations on a global basis. This year of 2023 marks the eleventh anniversary of the launching of Cork Music Station. William and Ita Fitzgerald with their son, John recognised the possibility of establishing a new Radio Station where its main focus would be to provide a service of 24/7 Country and Irish Songs and Music of excellent quality.
Within a few short weeks John Fizgerald through his expertise in sound technology had brought to reality the creation of the new Station. William and Ita had already established a network of very interested DJs who were hugely enthusiastic in becoming part of this voluntary home-based Radio Experience.
I feel greatly privileged to have been a member of this amazing team since its beginning over eleven years ago. Over these years, Cork Music Station has warmly welcomed a wonderful host of very dedicated DJs who have been broadcasting from their own homes on a voluntary basis sharing the very best songs and music incorporating their very own individual style of communicating with their many listeners all over the world. There have been many milestones during the past years such as the live broadcasts from a number of significant events such as the Michael Commins Weekend Sessions from Galway and Knockalougha Rambling House near Knocknagoshel, Co. Kerry to mention but two.
The making available by Cork Music Station of the broadcasts of religious services from St. Patrick’s Church, Millstreet during the Covid Pandemic in advance of the putting in place of live streaming which is now provided - was greatly appreciated.
Cork Music Station is provided free of charge through the kindness of its dedicated Presenters and especially through the generosity of the Fitzgerald Family in Cullen - Ita, William and John. The Radio Station is advertisement free - as BBC is also!
In recent times, with the superb assistance of Bernard Crowley, a special Cork Music Station YouTube Channel has been developed by which one can access a variety of Interviews which one may have missed during the live transmission. This special YouTube Channel can also be accessed through a link with www.millstreet.ie.
Bumbleance (the Irish Children’s Ambulance Service) is the charity which is very special to Cork Music Station and with the splendid cooperation of Millstreet Vintage Club, thousands of euro have been presented to this highly praiseworthy charity through its annual fundraising Car Run.
We thank the very many loyal listeners from all over the world, our magnificent presenters from locations such as Cullen, Newmarket, Clonmore near Charleville, Mid Cork, Ballymacelligott, Ballinhassig, Wexford, Mayo, Dublin, United Kingdom and Sweden.
From my own home in Millstreet I feel greatly privileged to present Radio Treasures every Tuesday from 9.10pm until 11.30pm with special Interviews featuring at 10pm usually. The support and genuine care which I experienced from our family of loyal listeners in advance of a serious operation in March 2022 was utterly inspiring and hugely uplifting at that significant time.
And we also have quite a few pet dogs such as Jack from Crinaloo, Leon from Murphy’s Terrace, Dougle from Killarney and Porche in Dungarvan as well as pet cats in Kilcummin - all dedicated CMS listeners!! Susie - our little blind cat - has become famous as she sits by my side during the weekly broadcast - usually fast asleep by the end of my Show!
