“If I just started counting calories, I’d lose the weight”

Yes, learning about calories will help you understand energy balance better. But you still have to work on your relationship with food and why you are overeating in the first place. Counting calories is not a magic weight loss tool.

“If someone would just tell me what to eat, I’d lose the weight”

Yes, someone can tell you what to eat and you will lose weight if you follow that diet. But what happens when you have to go back to making food decisions for yourself? You will ultimately fall back to previous habits because you have not learnt how to change your underlying, fundamental behaviours when it comes to food.

“If I just cut out carbs, I’ll lose the weight”

Yes, cutting out carbs will help you lose weight. But are you going to stop eating carbohydrates for the rest of your life? Does that sound realistic to you? I highly doubt it!

Stop looking for the silver bullet when it comes to weight loss. To lose weight and keep it off for the long term, you have to invest the time to understand why you are eating the way you are right now. You have to have patience and learn new habits, which takes time. Stop searching for a new diet.
