IMPERFECTION/EVOLUTION: The Futurism-Inspired Book Created by VRB to Celebrate Its 40th Anniversary Alessia Venturi, ipcm®
“Depero Futurista” is the official title of the famous bolted book published by Fortunato Depero, an exponent of the Second Futurism movement, in 1927. One of the first modern artist’s books and a milestone in the history of graphic design, it had the dual function of documenting Depero’s work at the height of his success in Italy and promoting his brand in New York, where the artist would move in 1928. The first example of a book-object, characterised by a varied layout and held together by two large mechanical bolts, this work of art served as the inspiration for IMPERFEZIONE/EVOLUZIONE (i.e. IMPERFECTION/EVOLUTION), the book born from an idea and a project by Italian powder coating contractor VRB to celebrate its 40th anniversary.
