The influence of lockdown is revealed in Tsar Carpets’ new collection

Tsar Carpets’ new Forma collection is a result of appreciation of nature during lockdown and explores themes of energy and optimism while blurring the line between design and fine art.

‘The goal was to create designs that exemplify and embody the dawn of a new beginning, ‘ says Teresa Ceberek, Tsar Carpets design manager.

The collection was designed over the past 12 months, during lockdown, when each member of the design team found themselves going on solitary daily walks around their respective neighbourhoods. These moments of meditative excursion inspired the incorporation of natural textures and patterns, including cracked earth formations and moss growing on rocks.

The design process provided a source of escapism during a dark and challenging time, which is evident in the collection’s use of dazzling and vibrant colours and exaggerated forms. 

‘Mixing natural references and surreal compositions is a direct reflection of our collective headspace at the time of the collection’s conception,’ adds Ceberek.

In addition to being the largest Tsar Carpets collection to date, with 25 designs, Forma also represents the first time the company has employed refined fading techniques to achieve new gradients, as well as the first time ribbon has been used as a material to create sculptural dimensions. What once would have been considered waste is going into the latest version of Hari

Ondarreta has updated its Hari dining chair to make use of recycled materials. Its most recent black, white and caramel versions reflect the work the company has been doing to focus its production processes on caring more and more for the environment.

Hari Polypropylene Re-wood is made out of wood polypropylene (white and caramel), a material that blends waste from the wood production process, or recycled polypropylene (black), which incorporates post-industrial polymers and recycled material from bottle tops.

By using these new compounds, Ondarreta is seeking to reduce the use of virgin fossil materials as well as the amount of waste generated during its production processes. Visit: www.ondarreta.com
