Update on IM240 emissions testing

The IM240 emissions test is used to measure the levels of pollutants emitted by a vehicle

Due to the closure of IM240 emissions testing facilities in Botany, alternate emissions tests have been developed for certain modified light motor vehicles, imported vehicles and individually constructed vehicles.

The interim emissions test procedure has been developed in consultation with automotive industry representatives and subject matter experts.

It describes the types of emissions tests that are acceptable for registration purposes in NSW as alternatives to the IM240 test until Vehicle Standards Bulletin No 14 is revised to include alternative engine exhaust emission test procedures.

Transport has extended the emissions test exemption until September 2023 to support the transition to the new testing procedure.
