Saito Kinen Festival Matsumoto is directed by Seiji Ozawa and has been attracting the public with its quaint productions since “Oedipus Rex” in 1992. The combination of Kazuki Yamada, the winner of the grand prize at the Besançon International Competition for Young Conductors in 2009, and actress Isabel Karajan, the daughter of Maestro Karajan, playing the principal role of Jeanne, aroused interest in the 20th anniversary of the festival.
