Born, Built, and Sewn in the USA!
As we were establishing t-shirt manufacturing lines in Iowa for our very first Dignity Apparel T-shirt, we uncovered an all-too-familiar and heartbreaking story: a well-established fabric mill and t-shirt factory was on the verge of shutting down. A major brand had chosen to offshore production to save just a few dollars per shirt, leaving nearly 100 hardworking Americans staring down unemployment—a cycle that has devastated countless communities for decades.
When we visited the factory, the stakes became even clearer. These were salt-of-the-earth men and women, many of whom had dedicated decades to their craft, now deeply worried about their future. Their skill was unmatched, producing some of the finest USA-made t-shirts we had ever seen, yet their hard work hadn’t translated into security. Many were living paycheck to paycheck, with no retirement plans, no paid time off to spend with their families, and no chance to build a better life.
Who was standing up for these single mothers, these 30-year knitters, and these artisans working past retirement age just to survive? It was time for someone to fight for them—and for the dignity they deserve.
As of February 1, 2024, we are thrilled to announce the expansion of Dignity Apparel operations to include a t-shirt factory nestled in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee. Even in a “right to work” state, thanks to the outstanding efforts of Workers United/SEIU, 100% of our team joined a union with a proud legacy of representing garment industry workers. After thoughtful negotiations, the team unanimously ratified their first contract—a milestone we deeply celebrate.
We are honored to say that moving forward, every Dignity Apparel t-shirt will be union-knit at our Tennessee mill and union cut and sewn in our Tennessee garment factory. This marks an exciting new chapter for Dignity Apparel, our incredible team, and the future of American-made craftsmanship!

WHY USA-MADE GARMENTS?
• In 1960, roughly 95% of apparel worn by Americans was made by Americans. As of 2009, this number had dropped to 2%.
• US garment manufacturing has decreased by 80% in the past three decades. The global garment industry has filled the gap, and has proven rife with indentured labor, child labor, and environmental destruction.
WHY UNION-MADE GARMENTS?
• In the last decade, the vast majority of unionized garment factories have shut down or stopped serving the union market.
• Some non-union US garment factories have been found to pay below minimum wages with little to no benefits, and at times use imported fabric in their “USA-made” products.
• Partnership with unions ensures that the garments we buy lead to thriving, sustainable livelihoods.

LINDSEY wasn’t sure where her career would take her. She started as a line sewer, but her sharp eye for detail and natural leadership quickly earned her a promotion. Now working in production and planning, she oversees nearly every step of the process—from fabric to final shipment.
“The most impactful thing about working at Dignity Apparel is the people I’ve met and the relationships I’ve built.” For Lindsey, success isn’t just about production numbers; it’s about the team that makes it all happen. She takes pride in leading with positivity and determination, always striving to help both her coworkers and the company move forward.
LARRY used to shy away from challenges. He spent years feeling isolated, unsure of his place in the world. But when he joined Dignity Apparel’s logistics team, something changed. Surrounded by people who genuinely care, he discovered a new sense of confidence and purpose. The encouragement of his team, paired with the steady, meaningful work, helped him find his footing.
