THE MENU OF NATIONAL SERVICES OVERVIEW For over 40 years, the “I Have A Dream” Foundation (IHDF) has worked to ensure that all children have the opportunity to pursue higher education, fulfill their potential and achieve their dreams. Our vision is a world where every child has equal access to the educational and career opportunities that will ignite their innate potential. The Foundation’s network of Affiliates provide individualized social, emotional and academic support to young people from underserved communities from elementary all the way through college along with guaranteed post-secondary scholarships to enable post-secondary pathway completion and success. Affiliates are dedicated to increasing educational and career opportunities for underserved youth and creating a lasting positive impact in the communities that they serve. This Menu of National Services summarizes the resources, conferences, programs, partnership privileges and more that Affiliates can utilize as a benefit of their membership in the IHDF network. These services are provided to help Affiliates become and remain thriving and sustaining nonprofit organizations that achieve consistently strong outcomes with Dreamers. The Menu of National Services is just that—a menu of resources to choose from. These services were designed for Affiliates and with Affiliate needs in mind. We encourage you to take full advantage of your network membership benefits and to fully engage in the Foundation’s events and programs. PROGRAM HIGHLIGHT: INSPIRE THE DREAM MENTORING Mentoring is a proven method of preventing high school dropout and increasing students’ likelihood of attending and graduating college. Mentoring programs that improve the child-parent relationship, have frequent mentor contact and visitation, and involve high-quality mentor relationships lead to better grades. The Inspire The Dream Mentoring Program incorporates this research and uses a positive youth development approach that views youth as resources to cultivate, not problems to ﬁx. Inspire The Dream helps young people receive individualized guidance and build the social-emotional, academic and self-advocacy skills necessary to achieve their dreams. To expand this program, National received a three-year federal grant from the Department of Justice and is awarding sub-grants to Aﬃliates to provide funds to launch, support and expand their local Inspire The Dream Mentoring program.

Affiliate Leadership Council The Affiliate Leadership Council (ALC) serves as a guiding body to the National “I Have A Dream” Foundation. The ALC provides input and direction into national initiatives, serves as a bridge between Affiliates and the national team/board, shares best practices among Affiliates, and helps shape the overall vision and long-term strategic plan of the “I Have A Dream” Foundation. Each Affiliate leader (or the senior most staff person at an Affiliate) has a seat on the ALC. The members of the ALC elect a chairperson to lead the council for a two-year term. During this term, the elected council chair also serves as a voting member of the National Board of Directors. Through the ALC chairperson, Affiliate leaders have a voice that represents the diverse interests of the network to the National Board of Directors and an opportunity to inform National Board level dialogue and decision making. Participation on the ALC is at no cost to Affiliates. Though the ALC chairperson is a voting member of the Board, they are exempt from the financial requirements associated with Board membership. Travel costs associated with participating in Board meetings are reimbursed by National. All Affiliate leaders are invited to participate in the Affiliate Leadership Council meetings and activities. Affiliate Playbook The Affiliate Playbook is a start-up and best practices resource available to all Affiliate staff that includes a vast amount of information about the “I Have A Dream” Foundation, our model, our history, and our impact. The Affiliate Playbook includes guided steps on how to launch a new Affiliate, and launch a new Cohort. It also includes information on the best practices of how to implement each of our pillar programs, partners Affiliates can work with, and templates for job descriptions, surveys, schedules, grant proposals, curriculum (or partnership options that National supports) and data collection. This electronic resource is fluid. It will be updated as we continue to enhance our existing programs, and add new innovative programs and practices. We encourage Affiliates to share their best practices and ideas for programming with us to be included in the Playbook for others to use and benefit from.

This service is available at no cost for Affiliates to use, however, access to the Affiliate Playbook requires a login and password. Access will be provided to all staff in the onboarding process and upon request. AmeriCorps Program AmeriCorps is a volunteer civil service program supported by the U.S. federal government through the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) along with foundations, corporations, and other donors. AmeriCorps members commit their time and skills to help organizations meet critical needs in the community. AmeriCorps members support the work of “I Have A Dream” Foundation Affiliates in direct service to Dreamers and programming, etc. National headquarters partners with the Notre Dame Mission Volunteers (NDMV) National AmeriCorps Program to offer AmeriCorps members to Affiliates. Currently we have seven Affiliates participating in the AmeriCorps program in the following locations: Los Angeles, CA, Boulder, CO, Dallas, TX, Miami, FL, Milwaukee, WI, Newark, NJ, and New York, NY. Participating Affiliates provide a matching fee of approximately $13,000 for each AmeriCorps member, plus mileage and access to a computer. Affiliates are responsible for recruiting their own AmeriCorps members in partnership with NDMV and through the CNCS website. BoardSource BoardSource is a recognized leader in nonprofit board leadership. It educates nonprofit leaders across the country by providing a range of tools, resources, and data to increase board effectiveness and strengthen organizational impact. Through our national membership with BoardSource, “I Have A Dream” Foundation Affiliates have access to: • •

The BoardSource Exchange, a peer learning platform that enables you to connect, engage, and share governance information with all BoardSource members. Online newsletters and communications with practical tips and tools for navigating governance challenges. Monthly member 101- and 201-level webinars on a variety of board leadership topics. Hundreds of 101-, 201-, and 301-level topic papers addressing governance issues. Discounts on BoardSource trainings, assessments, publications, and the biennial conference, the BoardSource Leadership Forum. We hope that you are able to take advantage of this resource to deepen your governance knowledge and to strengthen the eﬀectiveness and impact of your Boards.

Collective Fundraising To chip away at deep-rooted inequity, we need to work as a team. Although we honor each Dreamer as an individual, we also recognize that Dreamers share many of the same needs and lack of resources. When we work together to fundraise for those supports and capacity building, we can utilize the power of our national scale to reach larger funders and receive donations from beyond our local pool. Most importantly, we have the power to widen the range of our impact and support all Dreamers. National headquarters supports the work of Affiliates by providing capacity-building partnership grants or funding. These are competitive opportunities open to all Affiliates or may be specific opportunities provided to Affiliates that demonstrate the strongest ability to effectively use the funding to increase capacity within their programs. Most recently, grant funding dispersed to Affiliates through National have included: ● the Great Expectations Initiative to ensure Affiliates retain a staff member to support Dreamers through post-secondary ● a federal grant from the Department of Justice expanding our Inspire the Dream Mentoring Program by helping Affiliates hire a staff member to recruit, train and place volunteer mentors (academic, community-based, and peer) with Dreamers ● start-up funding for direct-to-Dreamer literacy tutoring Affiliates participating in national collective fundraising can also look forward to: • Access to Online Fundraising Platforms • Campaign Communication Toolkits • Matching Funds Secured via National Partnerships Participating in Collective Fundraising is at no additional cost to Affiliates, however, some grant awards, may require a match. Consulting & Technical Assistance Each Affiliate has access to a national staff member based on organizational needs to serve as an Affiliate Liaison and main point of contact to help streamline communications and support, and provide ongoing technical assistance (identified in the Network Standards of Quality Annual Action Plan that is updated annually), including in person site visits and virtual consultations. Affiliate Liaisons will make themselves available to meet with assigned Affiliate Leaders monthly/bi-monthly or as needed. In addition, under this program, on occasion, former “I Have A Dream” Foundation staff members with specialized expertise may be matched with Affiliate staff in short-term, focused, capacity-building consulting engagements. This program allows us to collaborate with network-wide program directors, executive directors, sponsors, and national staff to build the strength and sustainability of our Affiliates. Costs associated with these consulting engagements, including consultant fees and travel for onsite assistance, are reimbursed by National headquarters upon successful completion of the engagement and fulfillment of engagement responsibilities. Marketing & Communication Toolkit The National “I Have A Dream” Foundation Marketing & Communication Toolkit was established to assist Affiliates to further build their communications materials and online presence. The toolkit contains: • The National IHDF Brand Style Guide, an outline of the guidelines and requirements for using the IHDF brand • National IHDF Messaging Guidelines, for guidance on describing and promoting our work and our impact • Our National IHDF Data Fact Sheet, a summary of key data points, outcomes and statistics about our programs • High Resolution IHDF Logo Image Files • Customizable marketing collateral templates including templates for business cards, letterhead, brochures, presentations & social media posts • Access to an IHDF website template that is purpose-built for and customizable by IHDF Affiliates and website hosting along with an instructional guide and training on personalizing and maintaining your website • Access to Canva, an easy-to-use online editing software for customizing collateral templates or building your own marketing collateral Access to this service is at no cost to Affiliates. The Marketing & Communications toolkit is available for all “I Have A Dream” Foundation Affiliates to use. National IHDF Staff Conference Every year, staff from across the network convene for a professional development conference. The conference is an opportunity to learn from and share best practices with colleagues, to hear from experts in the field of youth development, education and advocacy, and to understand and provide input into the strategic direction of the national organization. Staff from all functions in the organization—leadership, fundraising, programming and operations—are encouraged to attend the conference. Our annual professional development conference is an integral part of the year where staff reflect on and celebrate the past program year and recharge for the upcoming year. “I loved the conference and appreciated the depth and range of sessions both the workshops and the plenary sessions.” - Attendee at Staff Conference in Denver, CO “This year’s conference was powerful! I felt moved and motivated both professionally and personally.” -Attendee at Staff Conference in Newark, NJ Costs to attend the Staff Conference include a registration fee, travel to the conference city and hotel/lodging at the conference site. Onsite meals, activities and ground transportation are included in the registration fee. (Each year a limited number of conference fee waivers are available.) The National Staff Conference occurs every year in early August and is open to all staff members from Affiliates. Details about the conference, including logistics, costs, workshop lineup, and fee waivers are announced on the ALC Call. Onboarding How new hires join an organization can have a major impact on their work experience. Research shows that 69% of employees are more likely to stay with a company for three years if they experienced great onboarding. As leaders transition into new roles, we want to ensure they have all the available resources at their fingertips. National provides individual support to incoming leadership staff to assist with onboarding to the “I Have A Dream” model, network, programs, and services. Access to onboarding services are available at no costs to Affiliates. Various national staff members provide Onboarding support to all new Affiliate leadership staff. Professional Development Stipends “I Have A Dream” Foundation believes in the growth of our Dreamers, but also our staff. We encourage staff at Affiliates to take advantage of professional development workshops and conferences to expand their capacity, learn emerging and innovative practices, strengthen program outcomes, and renew their excitement about the work that we do. We value the skill sets of all staff and encourage staff to find relevant training to help them keep up with trends and technology related to our work in this ever changing environment. National headquarters awards stipends to help alleviate the costs of training to further skills in support of our individualized services model. In addition, stipends are provided to help offset attendance for select college access and education equity conferences and workshops. Examples of qualifying conferences include: • • • • • •

Building the Dream Internship Program The Building the Dream Internship Program is a career-readiness program that Affiliates implement to facilitate the placement of 10th-12th graders and Post-Secondary Dreamers at internship opportunities that are directly correlated with their academic pursuits and career ambitions. The goals of the program are to provide first-hand experiences in the workplace, create and expand professional social networks, enhance resumes, and expand industry knowledge, and explore interests. As part of the competitive application process for admittance to the program, Dreamers submit a resume and cover letter as well as participate in a first-round interview before the applicant is referred to a partner organization or corporation. Before placement, Dreamers participate in a professional development boot-camp, and after placement, there is consistent communication throughout the summer to ensure an effective and productive internship experience for all parties. This service is no cost for Affiliates to use. Typically, Affiliates reach out to their board and partners to secure summer internship experiences for high school and post-secondary Dreamers. National also reaches out to their board and partners to secure summer internship experiences and will notify Affiliate leadership when these opportunities become available for Dreamers. Partner internship organizations are expected to cover the cost of hosting an intern. Building Wellness Program The Building Wellness Program is a common core-aligned youth health literacy curriculum that encourages and empowers children to seek, question, process and integrate health information in order to obtain the highest standards of health. The curriculum was designed with the generosity of the Eugene M. Lang Foundation and with input from several “I Have A Dream” Foundation Aﬃliates. Hundreds of children from across the country have increased their health literacy and agency using Building Wellness. The curriculum’s lessons are hands-on, interactive and user friendly. Building Wellness teaches students the skills they need to be active participants in their healthcare. The curriculum features: • • • •

Fifteen lessons for each level (grades 1 – 8) covering hygiene, relationships, communication, nutrition and more Online access with printable lessons and activities Multiple activities in each lesson—choose what you like best Scripts for facilitators—no health expertise needed

Usage of the Building Wellness curriculum is at no cost to Aﬃliates. The curriculum is speciﬁcally designed to be “budget friendly”. All supplies used in lesson delivery are those that would be found in a typical classroom or after school program setting. Dream University Prep (Dream UP) Conference Every summer, middle school, high school and college/post-secondary Dreamers from across the “I Have A Dream” Foundation network come together for an annual post-secondary readiness and success conference called Dream University Prep, or Dream UP for short. Dream UP provides Dreamers with a post-secondary immersion experience that helps them envision and prepare for post-secondary life. Dreamers live in dorms, eat in dining halls, and attend a variety of workshops. Dreamers meet with fellow classmates and alumni who are enrolled in a variety of post-secondary experiences, as well as hear from professors and expert speakers. Dream UP workshops reinforce the goal of post-secondary success by emphasizing topics like skill building, academic persistence, career exploration and financial literacy. Dream UP social activities build community among Dreamers from across the network. Dreamers return home armed with tools to make post-secondary success a reality and eager to share what they have learned with their peers. Costs to attend Dream UP include a registration fee and travel to the Dream UP location. Lodging on campus, meals, activities, and ground transportation are included in the registration fee. Dream UP is available to Dreamers from all Affiliates. Up to four middle school, high school or post-secondary Dreamers per cohort are able to attend each year. Dreamer Service Learning Program This programming is designed to promote and encourage community engagement and civic leadership. Dreamers work on service-learning projects to give back. They learn about individual and community needs and how they can help and support others. They gain new skills and develop a sense of belonging and responsibility that comes with being part of a larger community. This program provides service-learning opportunities for Dreamers to cultivate a culture of giving back through National Service Days: • •

Depending on the projects the Affiliates choose, there may be costs to purchase materials. These materials can be donated or paid for by the Affiliate program. There are also limited funds that the national office can distribute to offset these costs. 80% of the participants should be enrolled in middle and high school. The National office will notify the affiliates of these events and if there is funding available. Great Expectations IHDF is proud to say that Dreamers are 3X more likely to graduate compared to their low-income peers. The goal is to increase the number so that Dreamers are not just surpassing other low-income students, but also meeting, or even exceeding, their high-income peers. To further this mission, National launched the Great Expectations Initiative to increase the supports we provide college-aged Dreamers. These additional supports help students cross the ﬁnish line to earn their diploma, changing the trajectory of their lives and generations to come. Programs with the graduation cap symbol identify those which are part of the Great Expectations Initiative. As the network expands and deepens the services we provide to this age group, National provides Aﬃliates with additional resources and assistance to ensure that each Dreamer receives the strongest support possible.

The programs are available at no cost for Aﬃliates to use. National has grant funding available to those Aﬃliates needing assistance for their post-secondary programs.

Inspire the Dream Mentoring Program The belief that meaningful, long-term relationships can help change a life is at the foundation of our program. Mentoring is an invaluable tool to expand Dreamers’ network and provide Dreamers with additional care and support. National has the tools and resources to help Affiliates establish and enhance their mentoring programs. Our goal is that every Dreamer is matched with long-term, reliable, supportive, and caring volunteers who provide individualized guidance and connection and serve as positive role models. Our Mentoring Model highlights the opportunity for Dreamers to be matched with peer-based mentors, community-based mentors, or academic-based mentors. This model promotes the need family engagement and provides resources to focus on anti-bullying efforts. Our commitment to our Affiliates is summarized below: Program Preservation ● Inspire the Dream will become a reusable model for Affiliates nationwide Grant Implementation & Compliance ● National will do the heavy lifting of federal grant compliance, supporting Affiliates with detailed reporting schedules and timely reimbursement Advocacy, Support & Technical Assistance ● National will provide comprehensive training and assistance to Affiliates ● National will leverage its partner relationships to assist in areas like recruitment and fundraising There is no cost to participate in the Inspire the Dream Mentoring Program, however, Affiliates are responsible for the funding to cover volunteer background checks, recruitment, training and supervision. The Inspire the Dream Mentoring Program materials are available at no cost for all “I Have A Dream” Foundation Affiliates to use. Literacy Pilot Program The Literacy Pilot Program is an academic preparedness initiative that works to close the literacy gap. Most of the Dreamers we recruit are academically behind when they begin our program. They also attend under-resourced schools. Therefore it’s imperative that we develop an educational framework that enables Dreamers to achieve grade-level reading status by the end of 5th grade. Other goals of this program include, developing local strategies to identify and strengthen partnerships with Literacy experts and creating a culture that promotes a love of reading, writing and math. National is partnering with EnrichedNYC to provide a Literacy Pilot Program through online services locally and nationally. For the 2022/2023 school year, National will support Aﬃliates who have recruited new Dreamers with: ○ ○ ○ ○

NPEA Membership The National Partnership for Educational Access (NPEA) is a membership organization that connects the people, practices and innovations essential for eliminating barriers to educational access for underserved students. NPEA is made up of 325 education access organizations committed to helping underserved students enroll in and graduate from college. Collectively, NPEA’s member organizations serve more than 400,000 students nationwide. NPEA supports the work of its member organizations by: • • • •

Opportunity Network’s Career Fluency® The Opportunity Network’s Career Fluency® program is a best-in-class college and career success curriculum for students in grades 12 through 16. The goal is to help students develop the skills, knowledge, and mindsets necessary for college graduation and career success. Examples of popular lessons include: • Anatomy of a College Campus • Budgeting on Campus • Diversity on Campus • Goal Setting • Informational Interviews • Study Skills National provides direct support to Affiliates to help program staff implement and individualize lessons for their site. The result is an integrated approach that fits the needs, structure, and calendar of each Affiliate and that provides Dreamers with valuable tools to persist to graduation and onto career. Usage of the Career Fluency® Curriculum is at no cost to Affiliates. Affiliates often offer prizes or food to incentivize student attendance, which they are responsible for covering. Career Fluency® is open to Affiliates with Dreamers in 12th grade and college with the capacity to implement the curriculum with fidelity and to track and report curriculum and post-secondary outcomes. Outcomes Reporting, Data Analysis & Benchmarking Services One of the primary functions of the National headquarters is to maintain the historical institutional knowledge of the “I Have A Dream” Foundation and to leverage this knowledge to inform practice and improve outcomes. One of the ways this is done is through the production and publication of network-wide outcomes reporting, data, analysis and benchmarking. The National Dreamer Outcomes Report is a visually appealing and accessible summary of this analysis. It can be used to guide programming agendas and illustrate our impact to external funders.

Outcomes Reporting, Data Analysis, and Benchmarking services are available to Affiliates at no cost. The Outcomes Report is shared and distributed with all Affiliate leaders. Affiliates in good standing may also reach out with program-specific needs for data or analysis. Socio-Emotional Learning (SEL) Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) is an integral part of education and human development. SEL is the process through which all young people and adults acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions and achieve personal and collective goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain supportive relationships, and make responsible and caring decisions. In the Spring of 2022, an SEL Committee composed of MSW and SEL experts from five affiliates worked together to select two curriculums based on the CASEL (Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning) framework for all Affiliates to consider implementing during the school year. There are five competencies that CASEL focuses on: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. The two K-12 online curriculums the SEL committee recommend are: ● WayFinder (which has a per Dreamer cost) ● Overcoming Obstacles (no cost) Additional SEL Resource: Building Wellness Program Curriculum Wayfinder has an annual cost per Dreamer.

SAT Fee Waivers The SAT is one of the most widely used college entrance exams. For many students, the cost of the test can be prohibitive and the process of securing waivers can be cumbersome. To increase Dreamer access to the exam, National provides SAT fee waivers directly to Affiliate staff to disperse among Dreamers. Waivers are available for all 11th and 12th grade Dreamers and will be provided to Affiliate staff upon request. Obtaining fee waivers from National headquarters is at no cost to Affiliates. To request fee waivers, email Justine Rosenthal at jrosenthal@ihaveadreamfoundation.org with the number of waivers needed. Affiliate staff are then able to disperse codes to their Dreamers as they see fit.

Surveying Surveys allow us to collect high-quality data and feedback from Dreamers that can be used to both improve programming and illustrate our work with external stakeholders. Surveying on a nation-wide scale allows us to see the breadth of our work and identify best practices across the network. In the 2020-2021 school year, the National headquarters offered two surveys to glean insight on the Dreamer experience and impact. The first was a survey in response to Covid-19 in order to better understand the effects of the pandemic on our students and families. The second was a Socioemotional learning survey through a partnership with the Student Success Network. Surveys are created for Affiliates, staff member receive hands on support with planning and conducting the survey, and Affiliates receive accessible reports with the analyzed data. This information is then available to guide programming, use in grants or fundraising, and highlight with external partners. This service is no cost for Affiliates to use. Survey eligibility depends on the target age range or demographic information intended for the survey but is otherwise open to all Affiliates in good standing. Survey opportunities are shared through ALC calls and individual outreach.
