MIDSOMER NORTON PRIMARY's Children’s Mental Health Team

t Midsomer Norton Primary School, we are always looking for ways to help children understand what mental health is and what we can do to have good mental health. In September, we set up a Children’s Mental Health Team. The team carried out a survey to find out what makes everyone happy in school and what might make them feel sad. We are using this information to inform what we do next. The team planned a long list of things that make everyone feel happy for Children's Mental Health Week, which took place from 6th - 13th February. Some of the suggestions included, sitting with friends in class, listening to music, cuddling our favourite soft toy and doing exercise. There were lots of brilliant ideas which put a smile on everyone's face.

We also have a group of children who are training to be peer mediators. Peer mediators listen and can help children when they have a worry on the playground. They can offer advice and take you to see a trusted adult for more support. They are good at listening, being supportive and helping out.
